I can't say I found it remotely troubling. In fact the Fishers' direct honest no nonsense contributions were excellent.

A good programme all round.

Anyone know when it was filmed, this summer or last? Looking at the wreck of Giles crashed plane. He is lucky to be around.

That DH60 Moth was at Old Warden earlier in the summer I think.

Poppies visible in the NATS segment, so presume last year (at least that bit.)

Rather them than me in the SAR rescue... not a nice environment to be doing that in!!

I thought it was an excellent program - roll on the next one.

I thought maybe the boys segment was a tie in to the trainee Typhoon pilot, so naturally you'd like to think that some young aircraft enthusiasts, outside the fence or at airshows, would go on the become pilots :cuppa:

The footage of the QRA scramble had aircraft wearing 1435flt markings which I *think* were seen on QRA earlier this year?

I agree. Not often that this forum comes up with so much praise for aviation in the media. I hope the producers are made aware of this thread.

Yes I'm sure you are right and that was the intention but for me it didn't work. But it's a minor criticism in an excellent programne.

A fantastic programme all round and if they maintain this standard for the remaining episodes it will be a treat.
And how refreshing the attitude of the HM Coastguard winchman lady, none of this rubbish about insisting on a 'winch woman' title which must have had many of the Twitter PC morons raging at their phones...........they were luckily too busy policing the Beeb Olympic commentators

I'm hoping future episodes will expand on the GA scene a bit more through gliders, microlights, ultralights and those flying on a budget for the love of it.
As much as I enjoyed the feature on the English family, I do think that they could have unwittingly perpetuated the myth amongst Joe Public that GA flying is the preserve of the rich only.
Nothing could be further from the truth, there are surprisingly low cost ways into the air for those who know where to look.
There are people in GA who will forego holidays and new cars to keep flying.
That said, a great start for the series and helped also by the fact they have dispensed with presenters . They are more often than not an irritating distraction and a waste of air time particularly Dallas Campbell who spoilt a series back in the Spring.

Checked back and indeed the Moth in question did attend OW earlier this season.

On the, "when filmed" question. I wondered if Giles had even been aware of the Shoreham tragedy at the time of filming. There had been a comment that he may have been more sensitive to that event when he explained that he always looked for an empty field to land in. Seeing the recovery of the air frame pictures, I can see why!

I thought it was a very good programme, though the spotter sequence did bring a sigh, and the SAR sequence was enthralling. With regard to the earlier comment about one of the crew not having any balls, I thought the 'winchwench' ( ) had more balls than anyone else on the programme. It certainly shoots down in flames the oft-repeated remark from idiots that civvy SAR crews won't fly in conditions as bad as military crews have in the past.

Looking forward to part two.

Got it ringed round in the RT, luckily it doesn't clash with The Great British Bake Off otherwise I would have had to record it. Oh hang on though, it does clash with Long Lost Family so I am going to have to record it, sugar lumps!

One thing I've picked up from this episode already, this "drone pilot's" blasé attitude towards safety is incredibly irritating!

His face absolutely dropped when he found out that needs to do the equivalent of ATPL's in drone flying.
