Oh, I don't know; I'd hope I'm not too contemptible, so I suppose the question isn't aimed at me.

But, maybe, probably, those people are investing in aviation heritage projects that aren't a pipe-dream, that are robustly costed, have an aircraft, mean something to the person donating, display an aircraft, have a well-tested and workable business strategy, get their marketing right, don't try and run as fast as Usain Bolt before they have learned to crawl, let alone walk, have clear aims and focus, are registered, have been in operation for some time, demonstrate that they are able to preserve aviation heritage, give you confidence that what little spare cash you have that you may wish to donate wont be spent aimlessly or without purpose, etc, etc...

You know... those kinds of projects...

The problem with "hope" is that it's very noble, but why should someone with a little spare cash to donate divert hard-earned monies to UKHAT when they could donate to, say, Sally B, or Navy Wings? That's the true challenge UKHAT faces. It's a competitive market out there.

Anyone got a sensible update on UKHAT's plans, purchases, dreams, nightmares, schemes or just plain reality realisation?

They have been quiet for a while now. Maybe they've dug up a Stirling builders plate from a crash site and are contemplating 'Stirling to the skies' ?

Do you want 'sensible' or do you want 'Stirling to the sky'? :-P

Unfortunately it is all a case of money. We have been working on these talks over the past few weeks and we plan to do several more this Winter.
We plan to use this money to purchase a range of merchandise that we will sell on our website and at airshows alike. This will help us to buy an aircraft in the future and also raise awareness for our activities.
The Canberra PR9 that you mentioned, namely XH134, costs £90,000. We have neither money or infrastructure to support that at this moment in time, but we do have specialised engineers at Coventry Airport (Atlantic Flight Maintenance) that are ready to assist when needed.
We are looking at holding several bigger events in 2018, including vintage jet nightshoots, but I cannot go into any more detail at this moment in time.
I hope that you will keep an eye out on our social media channels and website over the next few months. There are some exciting things ahead!

I'm sorry but you will NEVER raise anywhere near enough money to support the purchase of an aircraft through selling merchandise.

As for the exciting updates... I have been waiting since you first formed.... nothing so far

We are currently waiting on permission from the relevant people to post an update, but we can assure you that there will be some form of flying activity in 2018. I am sorry I cannot go into any more detail yet. There are still some issues to iron out.
As for your fundraising concerns, we will also be hosting several larger scale events and the future update mentioned in the past and above will also bring in income.
We are pleased thst you have been following our activities and we hope that this answers your question as much as is possible at the moment.

In their defence, if they only raised £2.50 it would still support the purchase of an aircraft, just not very much!

As for flying activity in 2018, that seems like a pretty short timescale when fund raising has only just started in earnest, so perhaps someone has bankrolled a project to get it off the ground.

Time will tell I guess.

Yes, I suppose we will have to wait and see if they will get any kind of proper funding.

My thoughts exactly. My favourite was a stall at Dunsfold, with a small bucket for donations saying "help us raise £6 million".

I may have been critical of them in the past (although I can't be bothered to go back through the thread and check) but let's remember that they're only trying to get or keep aircraft flying. As long as they are legit in a legal and moral sense - and there's nothing to suggest n otherwise - the fundraising has gotta start somewhere.

If they didn't have a small bucket at Dunsfold, what is absolutely certain is that they wouldn't have raised anything at all.

Like I said, if it's all being done above board, good luck to them.

I see the owner or Miss Demeanour has posted on Facebook in the last few days reiterating his keeness to sell her and that she's pretty much ready to go again...'spectacularly painted Hunter to the sky' anyone?

My issue with UKHAT isn't the ideas or the aims. It just frustrates me when people come onto a public forum with an update that basically says, exciting news.... we'll tell you about it another time. That works if the update comes in a few days or weeks time but when it's months, people tend to think it's rubbish....which sadly is what I'm starting to think. I also have issue with them calling themselves a trust when I don't recall them ever getting legal trust status. If people are donating on that basis then I think that they are being defrauded (please forgive me if UKHAT has now officially received trust status).

I can 100% confirm that we were not at Dunsfold Wings and Wheels, so that must have been somebody else.
I appreciate that an update has been long and forthcoming. The heritage aviation industry is quite unstable at the moment, but we are trying our best. We would not have began this if we were not determined.

We have been in touch with the Charities Commission and we expect that we will register ourselves in the not too distant future. In the meantime, they have said that they are perfectly happy calling ourselves a trust. On behalf of the rest of UKHAT, I apologise if we have not said this before.

Many thanks for all of your questions

Sorry if I didn't make it clear, the bucket for donations I was talking about was a different organisation.

I think it might help a lot of people to decide whether UKHAT is worth their support if they knew who UKHAT actually consists of. It is all very well to say that who you are talking to is commercially confidential, but if people also don't know who YOU are, there is no reason for anyone to support you. The UKHAT website, which is painfully slow, is the most anonymous possible, no names, no addresses, no phone numbers, just a contact form.

To be honest I'm still unsure what the long term aim for this is, you say you wish to sell products to fund the purchase of an airframe, any in mind, or at the very least a rough idea of what your looking to operate, a classic jet, helicopter, WW2 warbird etc, its all just a bit lacking in substance right now.

I agree that it is something that should now be put in the public domain. I will get the list from the chairman and put it on here in the next few days.
It all depends on what is on the market and what relationships we have with the aircraft owner. I hope I can elaborate on this soon.

Chairman:
Duncan Halford founded the United Kingdom Heritage Aviation Trust (UKHAT) and has a real passion for vintage aircraft. Running two businesses himself, he has the right knowledge to be our chairman and take us forward into the future.

Secretary:
Nigel Powton is a keen aviation enthusiast and is responsible for helping the chairman with the organisation of meetings and ensuring the general smooth running of the organisation.

Treasurer:
The role of the treasurer is to monitor UKHAT’s financial administration and report this back to the trustees at regular intervals, in line with our governing document. TBC will also be involved in budgeting, strategic financial planning and investments.

Marketing:
Jem Shaw’s role is helping to spread the word about UKHAT to the general public through nationwide media and at events throughout the country. Jem was the former Marketing Director at Classic Air Force and has a wealth of over 30 years marketing experience to bring to the UKHAT team.

Communication:
Matthew Lear's role is to communicate with the general public and respond to website enquiries. (All website enquiries from the web contact form come to me - my email is enquiries@ukhat.org for those that prefer to use that)

Maintenance:
UKHAT will use Atlantic Flight Maintenance (AFM) for all of our maintenance and servicing needs. Based at Coventry Airport, AFM were responsible for looking after all of the aircraft belonging to Classic Air Force (a charitable organisation that closed down at the end of the 2015 airshow season) and have a wealth of knowledge in operating vintage aircraft in the United Kingdom.

We also have a small Ground Support Team that we will primarily be seen from 2018 onwards.

I hope this helps

In some respects these were already in the public domain; this from March this year https://www.charityconnect.co.uk/post/a ... -trust/605?

This is probably his twitter account https://twitter.com/dunc0936?lang=en-gb

What sort of a name is TBC? Poor communications practice, very poor.
