Belugas into Hawarden

Post by Cole »

Hey Guys, I want to make the Trip to Hawarden to see Belugas/a Beluga.
Does anyone know the best times to go?
What other traffic will I see?

Thanks in advance.

I work ten minutes away,

At the moment we've been getting them in/out around 10am, and then again a few hours after.

Having said that, it's been a quiet day today... :tumbleweed:

Airbus are holiday this week so it's been quiet. There are normally 3-4 a day normal working weeks.

Depending on where your based I recommend checking FR24, and searching 'BGA' in the search bar at the top.

You can see their point of departure plus planned route and then you can see where they are due to land.

Paris or abeam, to Hawarden is about an hour's flight time, and about 75 minutes from Hamburg.

Get there about 20 mins early to see what way aircraft are landing and remember the north end is almost impossible to park at due to double yellows and security.

Wednesdays and Thursdays are usually your best days - I've had an alert for 'BGA' flights on FR24 for a good 6 months plus now, so would like to think I'm fairly clued up.

I saw one while I was at Chester Zoo, never run so fast out of a netted enclosure before, to get a photo

Chocks Away is actually a cracking little diner!

If you want some overhead shots though of the Beluga, Wood Lane is good for those, a small country lane head on with the runway at the Hawarden end.

Other end not so easy to park up but you can get very close to the end of the runway at the railway track by walking into a farm field.
