Updated 20/12 - VC10 Jump Seat Competition
Updated 20/12/17
Hi all,
As we posted last week, the team that look after ZD241, the VC10 at Bruntingthorpe, are running a competition this Christmas. The final prize is the chance to take the jump seat, or navigator's seat, for a full power fast taxi run at either a Cold War Jets Open Day or at one of our maintenance runs. Also included are a download of Just Flight's new FSX/P3D flightsim VC10, a t-shirt, a bottle opener (your choice of our large selection) and a ZD241 goodie bag. The winner will be hosted by the crew, receive a comprehensive safety brief and will be able to bring 3 further guests on board in the passenger cabin.
Please head over to either our Twitter feed or the ZD241 Preservation Group Facebook page for details and to enter. Entry closes at 2359GMT on Christmas Eve.
In the new year we hope to have our new website up and running to deliver easier access to the group's news updates, our merchandise sales and our future events. As a volunteer group we appreciate all the support we get, be it financial, moral or just popping along and seeing what we do when Bruntingthorpe is open on a Sunday

Re: VC10 engine run opportunity
we use well over 10t of fuel per annum
That's quite a carbon footprint for a retired jet.

It could be far more. A full run, such as those seen at the Cold War Jets events uses a little over a ton. It's a small price to pay to keep such an important British engineering legacy alive. It's something that our US cousins do very effectively; in the UK, less so.
Every little helps. All done by a volunteer team too.

Just a bump to introduce the new prize opportunity on offer.

Signing up for one (Twitter being far easier) or the other is a very small price to pay for the prize on offer.

That is a matter of opinion. Considering another thread very close to this one is arguing about giving money to an organisation in return for apparently very little, using an email address that you could create just for the purposes of entering a competition to get a social media account that you could delete on Monday, for a prize that many would willingly pay hundreds of pounds to experience, is a very small price to pay.
We're offering an opportunity and, at the same time trying to increase awareness of what we do to keep a important piece of UK aviation and engineering heritage in working order. Much as we'd like to offer other ways to enter, administratively it would be impossible.

It *really, really* is. Just delete it once you win (or not)

I've had a trundle in the jump seat. It's worth selling your granny for.

How do enter if I don't have a granny?
Can I sign up for one, then just delete it after I win, (or don't)?
Buy the sky and sell the sky and lift your arms up to the sky and ask the sky"

No, it *really, really* isn't. Just my opinion, but I object to competitions restricting entry to "soshal meejja" platforms. As for winning, I've had 8 real flights on the Vickers Funbus, and to be honest, the best part of the VC10 experience, is being outside listening to the engines winding up for take off.

Noted. Maybe in future we’ll use other forms of entry; to be fair this was the only way to run such a competition in a short timeframe.
Please, no harming or selling of Grannies to enter the competition.
