Lightning heads off for restoration

Post by Cornwall Aviation HC »

Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre today saw the Lightning head off for restoration.

Our EE Lightning heading off to GJD Services at St Athan today for restoration. Back in June though to take pride of place here at Newquay. It's wonderful progress for us - especially considering we have just opened for only our third year. Hope you come and see the Lightning - alongside the VC10 and others... Back with us straight after Cosford Air Show in June.

Excellent news that another aircraft is being restored and repainted. Surprised that Fairford have not asked for the Lightning to be displayed in July

Excellent news, what squadron markings will it be representing?

I believe it's going to be;

After restoration by GJD her new colour scheme will be that of an RAF 74 “Tiger” Squadron aircraft, circa 1970, the classic silver of RAF Lightnings seen streaking through the UK’s skies to fend off intruders throughout the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.

Looking forward to seeing it. Lets hope the sun shines in Shropshire!

Nice one, will look great in 74 Squadron marks.. :clap: Lets hope it's parked well at Cosford, it will be such a wasted opportunity if not.

They've got the cockpit section from one of Brunty's Phantoms there for refurb as well.

Shame there's not a UKAR staffer nearby who's available to arrange an interview and write a feature about them ( and HAS, as they're there as well )...... :wink: :biggrin:
