MQ-1 to AAM Duxford & RAFM Hendon
From Facebook,
"Recently, one MQ-1 was transported to the American Air Museum in Duxford, England, and another was sent to the Royal Air Force Museum in London.
Airmen began demilitarizing the Predators before scheduled shipment dates while supporting local training missions and downrange operations.
Are you ready to say goodbye to the MQ-1? It is scheduled to sunset on March 9, 2018 as the Air Force transitions to an all MQ-9 Reaper force."

Museums would love some of those, they are very much an unsung force in many people thoughts of the ongoing change in military aviation
Member of Newark air museum and trustee/acquisitions officer just trying to save what we all love and thats history

Re: MQ-1 to AAM Duxford & RAFM Hendon
I can understand the AAM getting one as the Predator was a game changer for the USAF/CIA - the first truly successful long endurance UAV - and the first to be successful as a UCAV too.
However why is Hendon getting one? The RAF never operated the MQ-1?

The RAF never operated the MH-53 but there is one at Cosford.

However the ‘53 operated from the UK shores (at an RAF airfield) for a significant number of years so there is a clear link.

And how do you know the Predator didn't.

The question 'more' carefully phrased is:- If the MQ-1 Predator didn't operate from an RAF base in the UK or overseas... Was it 'operated' by an RAF base in the UK, or indeed an overseas Sovereign Base?
Pity they don't have an Air-show at Waddington anymore!
RAF Akrotiri can have nice weather this time of year?

I don't think the Predator ever was operated from any RAF base in any form.

The RAF never flew MiG-15s or MiG-21s but the museum still has them.

As Andy hasn't (yet) shared it. Tony Osborne has made a valid point over on Twitter:

1115 Flight operated MQ-1s before becoming part of 39 Squadron on MQ-9s: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._39_Squadron_RAF#RPAS

Re: MQ-1 to AAM Duxford & RAFM Hendon
Surely some sort of toy museum would be better seeing as they're just big models...

I'm sure they'll set up a PC game console, monitor and office chair next to it for the same experience.. !

No, it'll be in Cosford. That'll be an even more representative experience.
