Propeller ID please?
Propeller ID please?
A friend of mine picked this propeller up recently and was wondering what it might be from?
Inside the spinner is written the word 'port' so I would imagine its from a twin? I suggested a Beagle Bassett? Any further suggestions?
It's 9ft tip to tip. Thanks in advance.

It isn't a Bassett's prop - http://www.airliners.net/photo/UK-Air-F ... BtLdMZ0%3D

It's completely the wrong shape.

Keith,
If you take off the spinner and look at the hub, you should be able to see some writing or find a placard which will help in some way to identify the types this may have been fitted to. Unless all the info has been obliterated to render it non airworthy.
Arabest,
Geoff.

Re: Propeller ID please?
Thanks so far but there's no mechanism under the spinner. We just put the 2 blades together to get an idea of size. The chap he bought it from guaranteed him all 3 parts
belonged together tho'.
And yes, agree with you on the prop shape Eric, too rounded.

Re: Propeller ID please?
Well I've ruled out Chipmunk and Bulldogs after looking at photos, but the black & white markings are familiar on the older RAF trainers like that. But I'm stumped by the tip shape too.... is there anything marked at the base of the blade where it would meet the hub? Props should have part numbers on there from what I recall? On the mounting ring etc. Being metal bladed and those markings made me thing of something post-war trainer type, that's as far as I got....
Re: Propeller ID please?
Nothing as far as I know but I'll get him to check and send me a couple more photos. I've also ruled out Chipmunk and Bulldog...I'm just wondering whether someone's had a go at the blades so as to make them 'safer'?

A wild stab in the dark, could it be from a de Havilland Heron?

And if that's blue under the green paint.... it looks even more like one of them:

I dont think it is from a Heron as the blade shape is different. The Heron tips are rounded and the blades you have are paddles.
Can you get pictures without the spinner?

Re: Propeller ID please?
Do Herons and Doves have the same engines/props? Looking at the paint job, it doesn't look right. The black and white are reversed on opposite blades. I'm sure military ones have a staggered pattern, so as to give a flickering effect. The ones in the pic would cancel each other out. You can see what I'm referring to, in the tips of the props on the Heron pics above.
"Nice pics mate" comments only! No criticism please.

Same engines, Gipsy Queens, but different props - Doves have three-bladed props whilst Herons have two-bladed props.

Re: Propeller ID please?
Wow, clear photos for sure!
So its a Hartzell prop, and now a thorough search of the applications is needed. The following document from Hartzell may help then:

Re: Propeller ID please?
Models are T10282N for the top one, and I think T10282B for the second pic. Sadly, they seem to be fairly generic in their use!
Does the spinner have any markings? Comparing the spinner and blade designations against the list may help.

Re: Propeller ID please?
Thanks. No nothing in the spinner other than the word 'Port' in marker pen.
I've contacted Hartzell with various numbers etc and await their answer. Will let you know what they say.

Re: Propeller ID please?
Blade numbers are T10282 and T10282N which from the manual provided above can be fitted to far too many to list! One thing is they seem to come from 3 blade and turbine applications.

Ah, so it would appear that whoever sold them to my friend was telling porkies.....
Would still like to think the spinner might be from a Heron tho' ?

Re: Propeller ID please?
Just had a couple of nice emails from Hartzell who said one blade was made in Sept 1978 and the other in August 1993 and those blades were only used in a 3 or blade configuration and very common blades. Not sure about the spinner tho'.
