Historic Helicopters Open Evening CANCELLED

Post by JOLLY GREEN »

Historic Helicopters will be hosting an Open Evening on Wednesday 21 November with an Illustrated Talk by Andy Strachan and Richard Folkes of Leonardo Helicopters (UK).

Andy Strachan is the Chief Test Pilot at Leonardo Helicopters (UK) and is considered one of the most experienced Helicopter Test Pilots in the world. He is a former RAF Gazelle, Wessex, Chinook and Test Pilot. He deployed to the South Atlantic during the Falklands War and survived the sinking of the MV Atlantic Conveyor.

Richard Folkes is the Head of Aviation Safety Management at Leonardo Helicopters (UK). He commanded 659 Squadron during the First Gulf War, is a former Brigadier and Commandant of the Army Air Corps.

Together they will present a talk which focuses on the Company’s support to the filming of James Bond’s Skyfall and the London 2012 Olympic Games during which they were pivotal to the “Queen’s” spectacular parachute jump and the Merlin confetti drop over the stadium.

The price per ticket is £20 and this includes entrance to the talk, a drink at the bar and a hot meal. Overnight accommodation (Bunk Rooms) are available at £20 per person. Please see the link below for further details:

Further to the previous announcement, and whilst the website/Facebook pages are updated:

Andy Strachan and Richard Folkes will now deliver their talk on Wednesday 21 November between 6.30pm and 10pm.

Please be aware that, for catering purposes, tickets must be booked and paid for in advance. For bookings, payment and further details please contact:

mark@historichelicopters.com

Overnight accommodation is available at £20 per person (Bunk Rooms so please bring your own pillow, sleeping bag, bedding etc).

We are just off the A30 between Cricket St Thomas and Crewkerne The postcode is TA18 8QY but don’t trust your Satnav, you will end up at Hill Dairy Farm!

If you are coming from Chard you will pass Cricket St Thomas on the right, the Cricket St Thomas Golf Club on the left and The Windwhistle Inn on the left. As you continue to climb up the hill you will see a large lay-by on the left and immediately after that a brown sign for “Chard Equestrian Centre” – turn right.

If you are coming from Crewkerne you will pass through Maincombe and Roundham before climbing up the hill through a wooded area. Towards the end of the wooded area, look out for the brown sign for “Chard Equestrian Centre” – turn left.

Approximately 0.25 miles along that road turn right into Chard Equestrian. The gate has a sensor, so drive slowly up to the gate and it will open automatically. We are in the large brown hangar at the bottom of the hill and the double entrance doors are towards the left hand end of the hangar as you look at it.
