Would be great to see this return, the record attendance for this show was in 2008 when 70k attended, seeing 120k over 2 days, it was very popular until the decision by Biggin Hill Airport Limited to axe it in 2010 over safety risk amongst the reasons.

Look at the other airshows scattered about the country, they have some brilliant safety and business models that they could adapt without any problems.

Biggin Hill always had a superb safety record(with exception of 2001s awful events) and drew huge crowds. I grew up with the show so it would be great to see it return if it can and its nice to see Colin Hitchins involved again too.

There's been a yawning chasm in the airshow calendar since the show was cancelled a couple of years ago, I really hope it is bought back at least in some way.

Jenny has said before that Biggin should have airshow back but not as big as before.

What does that mean? Less aircraft? One day rather than 2? Less audience?

What was the problem with the show as it was - from the airport owners perspective?

No think they said two not sure what it ment but I think they scrap the funfair. Be brilliant if they did bring it back plus they could end it with the four based Spitfires

I was at the meeting (the Biggin Hill Residents Association Meeting)

If the show takes place it will be a two day show in June 2013.
However the airfield will still be operational, with display slots throughout the day between arrivals and depatures.

With local residents being given priorty on buying tickets.

Please be aware that this event will not be up too the size of the Air Fair from previous years, Although there was talk of some RAF participation (Red Arrows, Typhoon etc) but this is still too be confirmed (application in September)

In my opinion the Airport manager was more interested in the wishes in the local residents and not the rest of the airshow community.

So lets cross our fingers and hope it turns out to be good in the end, but don`t hold your breath, you might not get what your expecting.

Sorry too pour cold water on the event but if you were at the meeting, i think would feel the same, lets hope im wrong.

Guys,

I wish I could be more specific about what is intended for Biggin Hill in 2013 but I am sure you will appreciate we are still talking with the airport and hope to be able to release more news in early September, at the moment we can only say there is a desire to have a show NOT there will be a show.

I would not be involved in a half baked attempt of impersonating the Biggin Hill Air Fair that was, but I will look at presenting a quality show with a display programme to match the majority of UK air shows. The ethos of past shows, presenting a varied programme representing all aspects of aviation will continue but the policy of cram people in as many as possible will not.

The meeting with the local residents was part of a wider consultation to confirm the viability of staging a show in 2013, their opinions will be taken into account along with others ensuring that should an event go ahead in 2013 it will have the support of all stakeholders.

In the meantime lets take this opportunity to put forward sensible suggestions for not only the flying side of the show but all aspects.

Colin

I must say it is quite a relief to see a post from you and to know ADI hopefully will be involved, as I was thinking this would just be a low-key Airport Management run event and another waste of time. Not quite sure what 'the wishes of the local residents means', as that reads to me no air show, no noise, no traffic congestion through Westerham and no disruption to their weekend. I have been to every single Biggin Hill Air Fair since 1966, bar one when I was with the RAF in Hong Kong in 1980 and it was always worth the two-hour drive to get there.
If any future show fell short of what ADI delivered all those years, I would be skeptical about attending, so hope the old team will be on board.

As long the Biggin Hill heritage hangar spitfires end the show or take part as a four ship I am happy glad your involved again Colin.
