Throckmorton Airshow

Postby mrlovepantsuk on Tue 29 Mar 2011, 11:12 pm

For the second year running Throckmorton Airfield near Pershore, Worcestershire will play host to Throckmorton Airshow and Emergency Services Action Day in aid of Help For Heroes. the website can be found here http://www.throckmortonairshow.com/ but it doesn't look as though it has been updated since last year.

It's a nice little show with some flypasts and demos and some static aircraft that a few can be looked over. The show did have a few issues like no specific timetable with no real information to the crowd and viewing of the flying was a little bit obscured by bushes and distance from the flightline.

All in all though it is well worth the money and all for a good cause.

The Airfield is about 6 miles away from Evesham Station, Pershore Station is only about 1-2 miles away but it depends on what time train you get as to whether it stops there. Not sure about buses but I should imagine that there will be a bus from Evesham or maybe Pershore but it will probably stop about a hour away from the entrance, if the show is on a Saturday which I'm not too sure about as it was on Sunday last year, I will check this in the next couple of days.

Website now refers to 2011 show.

The issues referred to by mrlovepantsuk were frustrating with several flypasts in 2010 after the show had supposedly ended. I've just been browsing the photos of the 2010 event (via the show website) and wonder where the location of the helicopters parked on grass was 'cos all I saw were 'copters on concrete

EDIT: Having thought about it, I've a feeling the helicopter pics are from a previous year, the RN Sea King piccy seeming familiar. Can anyone confirm ?

Shame the show isnt today - nice clear day and not too hot or wet.

Is there any tips on where to park / when to arrive please ?

We are mainly going to see the Typhoons , so any idea what time they will be on will be good . Thanks.

With only a few days to go, a bit more detail on the show website of what they hope to attend (assuming it's more than currently indicated) would be useful. After attending last years event, which I did enjoy despite the aforementioned "flaws", I'm currently undecided whether to bother making the two hour drive to get there this year.

btw, can anyone confirm that the RAF C!30 that flew past last year was ZH885 please ? tia

I only live 4 miles away and I have doubts on whether I want to go or not if it is as disorganised as last year (having said that I wouldn't want to do it myself and appreciate what they are doing).

The ticketing isnt very clear either £20 per car or £5 per person as there isn't any public transport means that you either have to walk or drive so does that mean 1 person in a car is £5 or £20

Shaft - many thanks for that. Im a bit peeved that my child has now decided there is something else to do that day. But I may still go .

Just clarifying - does the 'ground show' mean the Tornado display , or is it something completely different ? (id guess unfortunatley the latter)

Thanks.

Ps - current forecast is light showers (but then again , they cant get tomorrows forecast right, so what chance 4 days ahead ! )

Such a shame about the negativity on here. What seemed like a great idea to go to a local show is just diminishing with each post . Or is it just unfair comparing it to one of the major shows ?

sorry not being negative just being factual on my experiences of last year.

it is fantastic to have an airshow right on my doorstep but if it stays the same as last year then viewing is impared and if there arent the announcements there is a chance that you will miss the aircraft which is shame as it could be a very good airshow.

it is worth going though to see the "static" of aircraft, military vehicles, lorries and emergency service vehicles and remember it is for a very good cause.
