Hi,
Is anyone going to the Windermere Air Festival this weekend.
Wondering where the best place to view it from is - Bowness or the other side of the Lake ?
Red Arrows going Sunday

so about 16.45-16.50 i think.

ok, would have preferred earlier but with the weather in Liverpool closing in, i'm more concerned about that.

Last chance for me for 558 this year (maybe ever if their next appeal for 2012 doesnt take off (excuse the pun)) so i have to go see it over the water.

cheers

Went to Windermere today.
2 main views from this completely poles apart so please bear with me.

1) from an enthusiast view it was truly awful. Apart from 2/3rds the Bbmf and the Vulcan there was nothing else really on offer ( I discount the fairford finale act buzzing round) , as the black display hawk was displaying somewhere over Coniston (4 miles away) such was the distance and height of this display. So not a lot to offer really and from this stand point quite poor, although it was free!

2) from a member of publics view. Well it's free. That's a good start! It was quite leisurely with large gaps between acts that you could lounge around or get an ice cream etc. Some of the acts were ok, with the Lancashire and Vulcan looking fantastic amongst the hills. Great day out really.

So I'm caught here as I believe both are my opinion of the day...........will I go again? YES! Why?

Thank Mr Martin Withers for that. Bringing 558 from right to left from out of view with a topside pass, then into a display that saw 558 disappear behind mountains on the far side of the lake, to reappear pulling over for another manoeuvre. Only 1 howl from the old girl today but on the wheels down pull round against a blue sky Martin pulled vapour off the wing tips, and something I've never seen before and that's self manufactured cloud on the wings.

If that's the last time I see 558, then I can carry that memory with me forever. Thank you Martin, you made our day, and for that I shall return. The thought of such sights within the reasonably tight confines of Windermere on a sunny day has me hooked.

Even if 558 is not to return, I certainly will.

Inthrust, agree with some of your comments, and I thought the Hawk was pretty poor, but I think that the display area being in a valley may have forced the display up a bit higher. I was over the other side and got some nice pics of the Lanc and of course the Vulcan. The other stuff was to far away for me to get any decent close up shots, but the landcsape added to some pics. You may well have been "surprised" by it coming from the right, but we had a great view of it coming in from the left, looking reasonably low with the hills and Kirkstone Pass behind it. I really only went to get pics of the Vulcan, low and in sunlight, and I can't see me going back unless there is some big stuff involved. It's a pity the Reds weren't on yesterday as I would have liked to have seen how it looked from up the hill. However it was a very enjoyable day out.
"Nice pics mate" comments only! No criticism please.

I was wild camping up at Blea Water (fly fishing mission) and had forgotten that Vulcan was due at Windermere. Made my day when we saw her flying over the fell behind us, magnificent sight!

Hawk was certainly high, but it always is - display line appeared to be the western shore of Windermere, certainly not over Coniston, though some of the turns certainly took her further west than the shore.

I'm sure the RV8 and Redhawk pairs along with Neil in his JP and the RAF Falcons would be pleased to be described as "nothing"... smoke and noise, displayed nice and low/close to the crowd...
