Because traditionally the Little Gransden shows have a break in the flying for a moment of rememberance/reflection. Air shows, especially LG, aren't purely about noisy jets, scattergun spray and pray photography and a race to the dodgy burger van!

It is going to be mine and the guys first LG so looking forward to it. and for the rush for the burger van. not this year!!DanO1978 wrote:Orion, suggesting the commentators were drunk is slanderous. Unless, by "literally legless" you mean he had no legs?

Orion wrote:Yes! I went to this show in 2010 and found that I was an unwilling, and because of the remembrance aspect of the ceremony, an embarrassed participant. Embarrassed because I object to being subjected to Christianity while, on the other hand, approving of an act remembrance. But this act of remembrance isn't as you say a 'moment': it's a full blown religious ceremony with a priest and what-have-you. A two minute silence would have been more appropriate, particularly as the two commentators seem to take the opportunity of a break in the flying to get really drunk; one of them was, by the end of the show, literally legless.
A good show, but I won't be going again.

First of all, there is one main commentator, Ken Ellis. His style may not be to your tastes, but he certainly does not drink during the day - and I don't think I've even seen him join us for a beer afterwards.
Secondly, the remembrance ceremony is non-denominational. If you prefer not to take part you are welcome to go for an ice cream, or as my Dave says, take your custom elsewhere. I am not a religious person and I have no objection to shutting up and bowing my head for a few minutes to remember the sacrifiices of those who defend this fine nation, even if such remembrance is conducted with a religious aspect. As the saying goes, there are no non-believers in foxholes, and despite the efforts of the media to say otherwise, this is actually still a predominantly Christian country. I respect that. The massive majority of the crowd at LG do so too. If you find it that objectionable, other airshows are available.
We thank all of our attendees for their support. The more of you come, the more money we make for Children in Need and the other charities that we support.
Without getting into anything here, its a breath of fresh air to see this sort of thing still taking place in our 'multi-cultural' society where people get offended over nothing and anything
DamienB wrote:FTS - I'm pretty sure one of the toilet blocks will have baby changing facilities (i.e. a table - afraid you have to provide your own baby etc.) but I'll get Dave to double check. Bottle warming - there's no cafe as such nor facilities to warm a bottle so you'd be best off bringing a flask of hot water and suitable container to stick your water + bottle in while it heats up - if you get stuck, ask a steward and we can provide some boiling water from the kettle in the hut next to the commentary box but I very much doubt any suitable containers would be available so at the very least bring a jug!
