Car Fest south 22-24/8

Post by farnboroughrob »

Has anybody any ifo on what is flying here? Looks like BBMF/CWH both days,Red Arrows Saturday but no Typhoon. For those that don't know this is very close to Popham and any displays can be seen from there. Not a naughty field before anybody asks, tickets are sold out. Will be going to Saturday to see the CWH.

I'm led to believe that several helicopters also use Popham to drop off/pick up VIP's over that weekend too!

Not much as yep so far from twitter and their web sites Brendan O'Brien, The Chinook and of course the two lancs The Reds look like they have a early evening slot according to their web site , possibly kicking off the evening display ,mmmmmm I don't think we would ever see the Typhoon ever as one of the grumbles from the first year was about the flick knife role demo and the noise

The helicopters drop of the VIPs in the field opposite the entrance to the farm shop ,this is where the Chinook parked up before the crew popped over to enjoy the fest and Red 10 dropped in before the display was canceled last year

The best place to view is the football pitch at sapley lane playing fields (google maps) or the footpath from the village to carfest which is created each year this will be on the carfeast website but don't walk down it after dark if you value your ankles

Also the display line is on the oposite side from the road type in Bramdown Copse Overton into google maps and it is the fields just to the left

Apache, Chinook, Brendan O'Brien, Trig Team, Reds, Tucano, Mark Jefferies, possibly Sea Fury, Both Lancasters, is the current line up, I'm hoping for the Vulcan! Last year we got a flypast about 4:00 on Friday by a C-130... We also got a Hurricane Mk1 last year, no idea whos, and a Spitfire IX cancelled...

This afternoon had a Merlin allmost take a couple of tiles from my roof they then spent ten minutes circling and and kriss crosing the Carfest site looked and looks like they could have landed (not 100% sure )either at carfest fest site or Popham , i lost them in the trees , then off they went 303 M3 direction i assume Farnbrough ?

a possible site survey perhaps?

Today's Merlin was nothing to do with Carfest and was simply another aeroplane in the Popham circuit. We do like to accomodate the military if they ask.

Lynx and Apache are due to display according to AAC Website, Heritage Hangar Spitfire is also on the Carfest South Website.

Current participants-
Tucano
Red Arrows
Lancaster Duo, with Spit & Hurricane?
Chinook
Apache
Lynx
Trig Team
Brendan O'Brien
Mark Jefferies
Heritage Hangar Spitfire
Not forgetting the Army Parachute Display Team

Not bad at all! We would have the Sea Fury display, but due to the unfortunate need of wheels down landing, this display has been cancelled.

Timing update BBMF 2pm and Red Arrows Saturday 19:30 both from their websites. Hopefully the aerobatic aircraft will operate from Popham, and the BBMF won't forget to do at least one close flyby!

Hey all!

Would I be better at Popham Airfield or Sapley Lane Playing Field? I assume Popham won't be open for the Reds at 7.30pm though?

Many thanks xx

Hi all.

Have the same query as Kerryp44, can any of you locals give some guidance? What's the parking situation like for Sapley Lane, I guess there will be various temporary local restrictions?

Would Popham be better or will the view from there be a bit distant?

Any local experience/guidance would be much appreciated (coming down from Swindon on Saturday).

Regards

Mark

I'm going to head for Sapley Lane Mark. Get there early enough to see about parking. Very excited! :yahoo: Enjoy your day!

Went for Popham in the end and was not disappointed. Whilst I could see the Chinook, AH-64, Tucano etc they were rather distant. However, the Lancasters arrived from the south and straight over the top of us at Popham, a sight and sound I will never forget. After two passes at Car Fest they again exited to the south straight overhead Popham. Absolutely superb, hope everyone enjoyed them as much as I did.

Regards

Mark
