Having not been to a specific photo event before, what recommendations of len(s) should I take?
and should I take my tripod ?
Thanks

18-50mm for apron shots and maybe something wider for interiors.

IMHO you will need a wide-100 Lens & possibly super-wide for arty/internal-shots. Braver person than me that goes on-base without a decent zoom for 'grab-shot' traffic that just happens to fly past you!
Take some weather protection as 'insurance'. Forget tripod unless you have Delirium Tremens (DTs). as you can't use it on the elevated air-stairs anyway! HTH.

I guess it depends on the photos you like to take, without knowing how far from the aircraft we are likely to be it's difficult to say, but I'd recommend a wide-ish angle lens (down to 15mm if possible), and maybe a zoom lens for any detail shots, so maybe go for a range of lens from 15-300mm if possible.
A tripod shouldn't be necessary, unless you're looking to use special filters.

The event is 1400-1800. I can't imagine them allowing a queue of cars arriving early and may open a gate specially. Alternatively for such events, there is a lay-by on the main road opposite the Base Hangar that they sometimes use to park cars and then use shuttle buses to take people in for security reasons. I guess the main gate will advise on arrival.

I don't think that will be a problem, as the designated car park is outside the base perimeter.
Re: Brize Norton - photocall June 26th 2016
In the e-mail you receive, it shows a map with the car park being indeed on the opposite side of the main gate. I'd imagine the bus will run frequently so folk can come and go when they please.

I take it this weren't much cop what with the lack of sun and no on board visits.
Re: Brize Norton - photocall June 26th 2016
Would have been nice to board aircraft, but would have hindered photography. Lack of sun wasn't a problem.
