Edinburgh Military Tattoo flypasts 2016.
Yes, it's that time of the year again folks! Fans of aviation in the Lothians and Fife should be looking forward to the flypasts for the tattoo. I'm keeping my eyes open for notams in relation to this event. I have read somewhere that this year there will be a particularly spectacular flypast for the tattoo celebrating the queen's 90th. If I read or hear anything, be assured I shall pass on the info! Lookout for anything 9pm on 05/08/16.

Sound! I will continue to watch this space.
Re: Edinburgh Military Tattoo flypasts 2016.
I was wondering recently wether there were going to be flypasts this year. Great to see there might just be some, will be interesting to see what this special one will be - Red Arrows perhaps?
Will be watching with great interest.

First flypast this weekend on the 6th at 7:30pm. The others are on the 10th, 17th, 19th and the 24th all at 9pm according to the notams. Get your cameras and scanners ready and hope you get them! I'll be hanging out of the sittingroom window with the camcorder as usual!

I seem to recall aircraft types were identified ahead of the flypasts last year. How was that possible, and what is missing now?

I'm wondering if they were requested or suggested? Although I have been told by a buddy via ScotAvnet, there will be a flypast of 3x King Air and 1x Hawk on the 17th.

Bummer . I'm going to be taking video of the flypasts, and if they're decent enough, I'll burn a copy (provided I can get the compatible cables and connectors, a visit to a specialist cable & connector shop looks on the cards! ) I'll PM you if I think it's good enough!

With astonishing bad luck, I am actually at Festival stuff every one of those nights!
Oh well, if I'm in the UH I will at least get to hear them blast over head...

Already noted in other posts - Notam is up confirming first flypast.
Red Arrows Saturday @ 7.30pm.
Usually go to Western Approach Road for Reds, but the trees there are seriously overgrown, to the extent that you now struggle to see the Castle from there.

7.29 tomorrow according to Red 10!
Would think Princes St would be potential good spot. Obviously the nearer the castle the better on the Royal Mile is best.

Just heard the Reds. I got in at five this morning, so I'm not up for going outside.
From the footage I saw on Twitter just now there was another aircraft chasing them, presumably for filming. Looks like a small fastjet or similar, but only in silhouette. Anybody got an ID?

Just caught them over the West of Edinburgh. Any idea of serials? Forgot Red 10 would be with them which explains the extra Hawk above the rest of the Team.

Red 10 (I assume, as it was a red Hawk) flew to the left of the formation as they passed over the castle. From where we were, it looked to be flying level with the other 9.
Re: Edinburgh Military Tattoo flypasts 2016.
Off topic somewhat, but the Polis helicopter is up tonight because, presumably, of that lightshow at the castle. Strong winds for it to contend with!

Was on the balcony down at my folks, they caught me out with the route in! They would usually be more square on from Musselburgh to me, but I did get them! Mrs heard them roar over her workplace, colleagues of hers and customers were wondering what it was until she explained!
Alan, yes I saw the polis chopper too! Flew over my flat, banked right and turned back on itself to fly over between Crichton and Appleton towers. It did mill about pretty slowly. First thing I thought was somene falling off the crags.

Re: Edinburgh Military Tattoo flypasts 2016.
Seemed to have possibly put on a bit of a boost when they passed by my flat,a cracking roar! However, was all ready camcorder scanner etc, started filming and due to cloud, all I got was the intake drone and then the roar!! Now swithering whether to keep or bin the piece of film

I did not have time to make it to Arthurs Seat for the Reds , so I opted for Lothian Road. The weather for the phoons was pants so stayed in, the weather for the next one should be okay.
For those who did not catch the Reds....

Nice catch Bolshi! Castle building and UH rooftop caught nicely too! Yeah, couldn't agree with you more about last Wednesday. Mrs was looking for them too from both Kitchen and sittingroom, too low cloudbase spoiled it. However she did laugh when they roared over as they passed by and I started giving it the !!
