Radial And Trainer Fly-In V: 29-30th April 2017

Post by Beech18Boy »

Hi there!

With the dust settled on an interesting year for the Fly-in we have changed the concept of the event with a new 2 day format, a new location and free landing fees for classic aircraft.

We can also announce the first foreign participants will be coming in from Portugal in the form of 2 Yak-52s.

The date is 29th-30th April

Kind Regards

Andrew

Event Organiser.

Guessing the 'Deal' on the new location isn't done yet, hence the lack of confirmation? Putting my money on "50% of £0.01 & Envy colour".....guess we'll see!

Let's hope its drier there, wherever it goes. "Letter shaped like a snake - top of a cooker - Mr Maclean" would be even better for me, I could walk there.

The date needs a slight change in the title, so if you are putting it in the calendar make sure you mark 29th and 30th April 2017

Evening all, the event is slowly taking shape nicely, despite being a fair few months away. We have also introduced basic themes depending on the aircraft's origin of manufacture or, in the case of ex-military aircraft, the current livery being worn (it just makes the lists slightly easier to read).

The following have so far expressed interest in attending (and no the UKAR Party Plane will sadly not be putting in appearance, it's busy training F-35 pilots on how to fly more versatile aircraft  )

Update

It's time for another update for the fly-in, although we're certainly hoping that it is slightly warmer than it has been in the UK this week!

- Providing a distinct splash of red to the airfield will be a Stolp Starduster Too joining us from Goodwood. Similar in appearance to the Pitts Special, the Starduster is also a very popular homebuilt biplane.

- We can confirm that a SIXTH Yak-52 will be joining us at Halfpenny Green (yes we can barely believe it either). This particular example, G-BVXK, has even travelled as far as Samedan in Switzerland!

- Complementing this week's update is the ubiquitous Piper L-4 Cub. The example in question that is visiting is G-BILI, an L-4A Grasshopper constructed in 1948 for the USAAC. The aircraft still wears its original military paint scheme.

Looking good for a fantastic little event, booked in the diary.

Great work from the organisers even at this relatively early time!

This maybe a really dumb question but will there be public access, after HG cancelled all events in 2016?

Pleased to say there will be access, with plenty to see as the fly in will be the aviation element of a returning wings and wheels type event.

Update

- A welcome returning visitor will be Chris Hayball in his Slingsby Venture T.2 (ZA634). The powered glider is still resplendent in its Air Cadet that were carried during its service throughout the 1980's. Despite not being the quickest machine in the world, it more than makes up for the lack of speed in charisma (and wing span).

- Continuing the RAF trainer theme is the addition of another Chipmunk. This particular example, WD286, is a T.10 that is frequently seen at aviation events across the UK. WD286 is of particular interest to the organisers, as the aircraft performed a unique flypast with the de Havilland Vampire at the 2nd Edition.

- Complementing this week's update will be the debut of another Stinson V-77 Reliant. This aircraft, 42-46703, was recently restored to airworthy condition at Oaksey Park, with a striking overall yellow scheme and Royal Navy markings applied.

- Over the next few weeks we'll also be publishing the attendance of a number of aero clubs, with our first being the DH Moth Club. For those on Instagram and following us at "radialandtrainerflyin" you might have already seen the news!

Evening all, as of this update I'll try and be a little bit more religious with the inclusion of updates from our Facebook page. If we can we'll make sure that each update is online at 19:00.

Also, please keep checking the full list that's halfway in this thread to get the overall picture of what to expect over the weekend!

- We are very excited to be being joined by T-6 number 8, with Rob Davies bringing his example, G-TVIJ, all the way from Headcorn, Kent.

- Also joining us from "down South" is the Piston Provost T1 XF690 (G-MOOS) from Yeovilton. The aircraft is operated in the capable hands of David Cooper and is hoped to be joined by Chipmunk 1377 (G-BARS). The aircraft carries an absolutely sublime Portuguese Air Force colour scheme, with this being the only Chipmunk in the UK painted in the vibrant training colours.

- Bringing some 1930's glamour to the event is good friend of the fly-in, Paul McConnell. He will hopefully be arriving in his stunning Beech Staggerwing (NC18023) from its base at Popham.

- Returning to the fly-in is Biggin Hill Shipping And Airlines, bringing several types to Halfpenny from their Biggin Hill home. For those of you that visited the unofficial fly-in Number 3, you'll be aware that they operate some of the most unique aircraft in the country, including the only Civilian Coupe in existence!

Hello again everyone, latest update is as follows:

- For the second consecutive week we have another de Havilland DHC-1 Chipmunk confirmed, in the form of WP971. Built in 1953, this aircraft sports a very attractive overall silver and blue RAF scheme.

- Arguably the world's most famous taildragger, the Piper Cub, has been a very popular mount with various air arms throughout the world. The Cub has also been an exceptionally popular aircraft with civilian owners, with the aircraft most famous for wearing its bright yellow manufacturer colours. G-ATKI is no exception to this, with the aircraft being a fine example of a J3C-65.

- Our final taildragger aircraft in this update is the equally popular Cessna 120. The 120 is not too dissimilar to the Cessna 140, with production of the type discontinued in 1949. The type will be represented by G-AJJS, which was built in 1947 and has been operated in the USA, Venezuela and Guyana. She really has been around the world!

- We've got some exciting news to share with you next week, but you'll have to watch this space for confirmation. Don't worry though chaps, it's no Mitsubishi Colt....

Kind regards,
Dan Ledwood

Good evening everyone, Cameron here!

- One of the lesser-spotted Mustangs on the circuit is planned to attend the fly-in, this being WW2 veteran, Miss Helen P-51. Delivered to the USAAF in early 1945, G-BIXL flies in a very attractive silver and blue scheme.

- Mentioned above in the thread, Vampire T.11 WZ507 is also due to attend the fly-in. It is due to arrive from North Weald on the Friday evening before the fly-in weekend, and is also planned to fly local sortie(s) during the weekend.

Kind Regards,
Cameron Sys

For adults it'll be £5.00, with this covering entry into the event (don't forget that there is also a Wheels element to the weekend also) plus free parking.
