East Kirkby Airshow 2017

Post by Ledhead27 »

Seeming as a thread hasn't been started yet, thought I'd throw on the confirmed attendees so far. Quite a few returnees but a couple of different acts in comparison to previous years.

It was uploaded on their Facebook this evening that a previously unannounced aircraft is to be confirmed by the end of this July. The show is scheduled for 5th August.

- Hawker Fury Mk.I (Historic Aircraft Collection)
- Hawker Hurricane I (Hurricane Heritage/R4118)
- North American T-6 Texan (Hurricane Heritage)
- Avro Anson (Sleap-based example)
- Spitfire and Hurricane (BBMF)
- Avro Lancaster (BBMF)
- Bucker Bestmann (Axis Air Displays)
- Auster AOP5 (Kevin Hale)
- Calidus Autogyro (Peter Davies)
- OV-10B Bronco (Tony de Bruyn)
- Great War Display Team

Static:
- Lancasted NX611 (taxi runs)
- Dakota (Drag Em Oot)
- Yak-11 (Sleap-based example)

The Fury 1 is such a beautiful and unique aircraft, I don't why it appearances are so rare. Any thoughts ST24 ? it's go or not go based on the Fury for me,
on this occasion. Now at OW sometime should be compulsory, please note HAC!

According to the organisers, following a flying display cancellation, the Blenheim 1F has been added to the line-up as a replacement.

If anyone is going tomorrow, and is bored/mad/stupid/confused enough, I'll be arriving between 10.46-11.00 in a F172 Skyhawk (G-AXSI).

My first thought too! However as of an hour ago both the Fury and Blenheim were both showing on the website.

Don't think I've seen or heard of the HAC Fury flying this year - so far.

There should be someone from the Duxford Paparazzi there today, they post on Key, but I've not been for a while. Still suffering from 'man flu'

Unfortunately the Skyhawk isn't a masterclass in speed, despite the immense noise inside. Flexibility in arrival time of 14 minutes allows for delays en route or holds. I remember the circuit being rather chaotic last year :dizzy:

From the Hawker Fury FB page

Weather and gremlins allowing, Saturday 5th will see the first outing of the Fury this year!

Charlie Brown will fly an air test in the morning at Duxford then transit to East Kirby for the airshow.

Fury was still in the "Air & Sea Hangar", its usual resting place at 14:15 yesterday, with no activity around it. But it did have drip trays under the engine and a tow bar attached. Come on HAC its just a hedgehop to OW...

Despite the weather, resulting in the loss of the GWDT and Fury, overall it was a good day out. A few gaps in the display but some good flying also, particularly the Trojan and Blenheim, plusl very well organised from a fly-in point of view.

Thanks for the ATC work today Steve, apologies for the confusion on first call when we arrived, I had sent an email stating the type/reg had changed but must have got lost somewhere!

As for last year and the 'chaotic circuit', it was aircraft left right and centre at all points of the circuit (don't worry you kept us out of trouble)

Wasn't me on the radio when you arrived or departed, I was saving myself for the busy bit which never actually materialised

I am dependent on the Centre compiling the list of visitors and then letting me have it a couple of days beforehand. With a change of aircraft it would be better to ring me directly (number in the Brief).

Ah my apologies, your colleague also did a fine job. And I'll make sure I bare that in mind next time  out of interest did the Hatz biplane depart or was it remaining at the airfield?

The T-28, Blenheim and Bronco displays were absolutely first class. Great to get some lovely light on the Anson departure too.

We had a great day. The Blenheim was a fantastic late addition and it's display was very impressive. One negative, which seems to be typical of most airshows at the moment, was the attitude of some 'photographers', pushing their way past people who had been waiting near the Lancaster to see it taxi. Amusingly, they didn't fire it up until it was on the airstrip, meaning another scramble to the front ensued. That aside, there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere, the displays were top notch, and the weather played ball.
