Looks like they have changed the SAAF gripen single flying display into SAAB gripen single flying display. I think that it probably means a display from the Gripen NG instead

Don´t know which is better SAAF or the NG...

Something labelled as NG turned up at RIAT a couple of years back, but it may have just been some stickers on a D of course.

In fact the right name to use is gripen demo which is a development platform for the gripen ng , it have been fitted with the new engine and the new main gear position enabling more fuel and weaponry to be carried. The gripen demo made a quick visit at the last malmen airshow as well as a riat 2010.

The main undercarriage is a mighty set of stickers - they've moved completely from the standard Gripen's!!

Fly to Stockholm (Arlanda) or Gothenburg and then take the train to Linköping. Other alternatives I guess is Skavsta (Ryan Air), there is probably buses from Skavsta to Linköping.

The SAAF display, if nothing has changed, will be flown by Blokkies Joubert, South African test pilot and rather famous for his Mirage F1 displays.

If it helps at all, I'm flying to Linkoping itself with KLM from Schiphol; AMS is easy enough to get to from most big airports in the UK, surely?

Cannot bloody WAIT for this now, I will be a soggy, lovestruck mess once the Viggen and Draken have got airborne... :heyhey:

I'm quickly trying to throw an itinerary together now. Ryanair into Nykoping Stavska does seem to be the best (from Stansted or Gatwick) @ less than £70. Car hire is somewhat expensive though. There is a bus service from there direct into Linkoping, although accomodation there is £100 + per night. I'm looking to stay at Nykoping @ £30.00 per night! I guess a car share could be on the cards if anyone else is thinking the same?

I see that there is a VIP only airshow on the Saturday. Does anyone know if there is any good spotting areas outside the Malmen Air Base?

You won't get much anywhere in Sweden for under 600SEk of about 50-60 pounds per night. Look for Vandrahem which are hostels (quite OK though) but the cheaper they are the further out they are and the more need for a car you will have!. Hire a car and sleep in in it!

Hi everybody!

A little less than a month to go before the malmen airshow is on :yahoo:

Unfortunatley the unmanned helicopter from Cybaero seems to have vanished as well as the baby blue team from denmark. A new addition is a low altitude drop from a Tp84 (hercules).

You can see on google maps but also try putting in google Linköping tourist and checking out the tourist site. There is a bus from the town centre to Malmslätt.

BTW the museum is great - the DC3 display is world class - all the description boards are also in English. I was there two days ago - Also had a tour around Saab Gripen production line and flight test!

New possible late addition!!

PC-7 Team

http://www.lw.admin.ch/internet/luftwaffe/de/home/aktuell/airshows.html

Only confirmed on swiss air force´s homepage so far.

As the result of the french airshow "cancellations" maybe we will see some more participants, the only question though is were they are going to put all planes as space is pretty limited at malmen.

/Martin

(ps. This Sunday I´m going to see the Viggen display for the first time in Västerås. Pics will be posted in another thread.)

Could be anything - just like the Uk - but don't look at SMHI weather forecast as (Swedish Met Office) it is utterly useless.

Hi again!

According to a participating pilot at the malmen show, the programme has been changed quite much with some added and removed participants. Don´t know tough when we will get to see the new programme.
