No Czech Gripen Solo display but a refuelling demonstration with the USAF KC-135R, it looks like.

Ace to see the USAF are sending a BUFF again!

Well, one Gripen display during a day is enough I think. :)

Shame I'll miss the Polish SU22s but I simply refuse to go again to this event after last years shambolic set up. Major gaps in the display but the huge walk from the car to the event round the base was enough to put me off. And the car had to be dumped on the road and we crossed numerous fields. Must have been 35+ minutes walking.

I drove with car (!) to the airport fence and after 15min walk I was at one of the best airshow spots in Europe... And if I would have been interested, I also could have entered the airshow area with another 10min walk. And having been once at RIAT, I would be really glad if it would have been "only" 35min walk for the entrance gate. :tongue2:

Major gaps in the display

That is because it is not a "standard airshow" and those gaps are filled with displays of infantry, armoured vehicles, tanks etc.

Ah was that what the SAM battery was doing when it created a storm of dust, stopped, rotated once and then froze for 15 minutes!! I've never come across a show before that has you wondering what the hell is going on because simply nothing happens for ages.

NATO Days are for sure not a place for narrow-minded people. So stay at home, others will enjoy the show for sure.

That's just what I will do mate. Not waste time and money at such events, the negative side of which others appear blind to. Drooling over my Sliac VIP invite right now..................

You just fail to understand, that this is not an airshow, but display of military forces. vehicles, infantry etc. Flying programme is just part of it.

No I do see that honest. The title Air Days must have confused me last year. I now see why you watched it from outside the fence!!

Well, if you just read the title, then that's pretty idiotic.... :cuppa:

What I do enjoy is informing my fellow countrymen (some of whom may be getting ready to part with lots of cash to make the trip) about what I witnessed last year. If someone chooses to travel that far to see something exciting then fine. But they should be warned that this is not a continuous display with only a few 5 minutes gaps in it. Obviously for those of us who live close to Ostrava then it may be worth going 'at any cost'. But for me it was so disappointing that I won't be going again.

Whilst the line up of 2 Typhoons, 2 F16s a Gripen and a Mirage 2000 plus the Polish SU22s isn't enough to get me to go it is a better line up than last year at least.

You do not have to send any warnings. All you and your friends have to do is to read the list of confirmed participants or schedule of the show. It is clear that if they have let´s say 7 confirmed flying displays, it can not be sufficient for several hours of non-interrupted flying

Some thoughts in connection with the ongoing debate and some experience from previous years for those planning to attend:

To be honest, I probably wouldn't travel to this event from the UK either. I'm not sure if it's worth the trip, when you'll find a number of larger airshows much closer to home - for me, it's worth the 700 km drive, tough.

On the other hand: the organisers were not fooling anyone. Sure, the flying programme was not continuous from 9 am to 5 pm - but that should have been obvious from the number of participating aircraft. As far as I remember, all aircraft indicated on the dynamic list were flying, there were no no-shows.
About the parking: the official parking area (for 6 EUR or 150 CZK/car/day) was only a 5-10 minute walk from the main gate. In 2010, I was travelling with a larger group by bus, we arrived late, and got cought up in the traffic jam (something that can't be avoided considering the number of spectators and the capacity of local roads). In 2011, we travelled by car, and arrived early (not too early - around 7:30, which was the time the gates were opened), so there was no problem with the traffic.

Does anyone know if there are possibilities to camp near the airport? (just using a simple tent or sleeping in my car)

Thanks.

Hi friends,

just I'm wondering if there is a special place where photographers can photograph the Airshow .. any suggestions ?
I never have been there before but I will go this year.
Any advices and hints are very welcome.
