Kecskemét Airshow, Hungary - 2013

Postby Leadfoot on Thu 16 Aug 2012, 12:16 pm

It has just become official: the Hungarian Minister of Defence gave orders for organisation of the 2013 International Airshow and Military Display.
The date and other details haven't been announced officially, but unofficial sources (from the organising commitee, I believe) suggest 3-4 August 2013.

Interesting... very interesting!

I had heard murmurings that it was due to make a comeback, so this is indeed good news. Particularly for those of us who haven't yet made it across to this event.
Posting comments on an aviation-related chatroom, are ya? Looks like it an' all...

Interesting...very interesting!

I hope, with 3 years off, there's reasonable funds to run a show similar to the one in 2010! It's 75 years of the HuAF IIRC as well..

Where did you read about 'Special heavy'?
Doubt there will be Tu-22M3 or Tu-95 and anything heavy, except maybe Il-76... ;)

Well, the Russian Knights should have Il-76 support aircraft. Sometimes even 2....

On Batajnica Air Show 2012, Strizhi has come with 4 planes(3 fly, 1 in reserve) and one Il-76. ;) Russian Knights for sure one Il-76, maybe 2, as you said... ;)

Also, there will be for sure B-52 or KC-135 USAF! (KC-135 was on Batajnica) So first special heavy is B-52 or KC-135, second is Il-76(one or two), and third.... Any idea? :)
Also on Batajnica was MiG-29M2 with his support An-12! Maybe this is third heavy plane! :)

I would like to see any of Tupolev planes, but my oppinion is little chance!! :(

A B-52 is always nice. Actually one of my aviation dreams will come true, when I see the Russian Knights displaying..

When it comes to the Russian Knights, or the Russians in general, I would'nt be sure of their participation until they take off for their display :P

Did a bit of research last month. The train from Budapest looks easy enough. Only £6 or so each way too!

There are direct trains from both Budapest center and Ferihegy airport. There are shuttle buses running (for a small fee, but it seems they stop selling bus tickets when it gets crazy so then you have a free ride) from the station to the show gate.

Thanks for the travel info, seems eminently doable and I might even have even persuaded she who must be obeyed that a long weekend in Budapest would be beneficial to both of us.

Just to add what has been said already, in 2010 I went by train from Budapest Nyugati train station (nice architecture btw.) to Kecskemet and used a taxi to the desired show gate because the queue was huge in front of the shuttle bus stop.
Had some trouble finding the right train at first but some folks with stepladders and photo backpacks led the way ;-)
Same way back, no problems and quite cheap way to travel. Got the train times here:

Great city (Budapest), great show and nice people although communication was hard at times...roll on August!

If we use Kecskemet 2010 as experience, first confirmations(Air Forces and planes) will be between April and March. ;)

Many of us missed the Polish flag from the 'invited countries' list. It hasn't been published on the official website yet, but the Polish AF has been invited. It seems (http://airshow.sp.mil.pl/pl/witamy/246- ... a-air-show) there will be a HuAF Gripen display in Radom this year, so - in my opinion - the Polish participation in Kecskemét is quite likely.

There are rumours about some kind of spotter-pack for Kecskemét, but details are unknown at this point. In 2008, there was a grandstand, but very few people bought tickets, so most probably the organisers came up with something different for 2013.
