Inthrustwetrust wrote:Hi everyone,

Just hoping for a few answers to a set of questions I have regarding my trip to Wittmund later next month if anyone can help please?

1) Taking pictures and getting access to the 3 main airframes in Aurich, easy or impossible?
2) Same for celebrity row in Leeuwarden.
3) Is there a good place to photograph the 16's at Leeuwarden?
4) Jever, worth a visit?

Any tips for other airframes and airfields nearby?
cheers
Dave

1) Should be possible if you ask at the maingate of the barracks, but i also heard that some of these airframes will be removed, don't know if all are still there
2) Normal not possible, but maybe if you send an email to the PAO at Leeuwarden you might be lucky, at this moment only the F16 and freshly painted F104G are there. The Hunter is in the paintshop for a couple of more weeks. Don't know if it will be back on its pole by the end of June
3) Both landings are fine for taking pictures of the F16's and at the westside there is a spottershill
4) No access possible, but from the outside on the west side you might see a few airframes far away

Hope this helps a bit
Rob

That is pretty crap news TBH, I was really hoping that the other two remaining Phantom operators in Europe would be present to give the F-4Fs a proper send-off.

Yup - in fact what is going on full-stop?

Friday is a spotter-day, right? So basically, access to the Phantoms outside their shelters, so very similar to the event which JG71 put on last year.
Saturday - is there supposed to be some sort of airshow happening?

Also when do the Phantoms actually fly-out - I seem to remember hearing that that was scheduled for the Sunday? Anyone know for certain?

Lots of questions and very little info, it seems, even at this late stage...

Friday afternoon - NO flying activity as far as i know
Saturday - 2 blocks of 1,5 hour flying with backlight (i believe 4x F4F, 2x EF2000 and some others)
Phantoms will leave to Jever in the week after the airshow, every day a few

You might be able to fence side it i suppose, but inside the fence "could" be the safest bet as they are expecting thousands

I doubt if you can get to the fence by car as several roads are closed and from Parking3 it will be a long walk to the east side of the field as there is a westerly wind expected.
And keep in mind that you need a stepladder to make any decent pictures

Thanks for the updated list; it's not bad at all, all things considered. Fantastic that we're getting a full flying display by an F-4F, and great to see also that the Greeks are planning to send a Recce Phantom. Frankly any old Hellenic Phantom would have done, but the RF-4E just looks that little bit cooler, IMO...

And don't forget:
Sie benötigen ihre Registrierungsbestätigung und ihren Ausweis um zu den Bussen zusteigen zu können.

I thought they had altered the busses arrangement now and have car parking 500m from the entrance?

Car parking is at parking3 at 500m from the airbase, but the only way to get on base is by the busses from the parking

I am arriving on Thursday
Is there any spotting locations for arrivals etc that I can park my car
And same question for Friday - official parking 500 metres from base seems a bit far out for photography
Appreciate any views

Frank,

Keen to know the answer to your question. This link http://www.phantom-pharewell.de/spotter ... igenem-pkw apparently shows where the official parking is for the Friday.

Guess we'll know on the day.

Previously, a Belgian F16 (special tail) and alpha jet were mentioned together with a Spanish F18 and a danish T17. My guess would be that we might get some surprises :P (i'm hoping) As far as concerned from the pilot of the T-17, he will definitely come so there might be more than what is actually listed in the list :)

Of all the aircraft I have been lucky to see fly in the world, the A4 has eluded me totally so that's a huge bonus! :yahoo:

Oh and it amazes me that so much accommodation in Wittmund itself is still free to book.

Just got Thursday night for £35.00 including breakfast
