Looking at doing the show this year and just looking for a bit of advice ...

Are there normally any departures on the Sunday... or do they wait to Monday?

What's the off base viewing like.. is it doable and are there any suggested locations?

Ta.

It normally depends on when the participants want to leave. In the past bases opened for a short while on Sunday for departures (don't expect it to be open for multiple hours).

I expect off base viewing to be like it is during Frisian Flag. A map about "normal" days is at http://www.scramble.nl/airfield-guide/leeuwarden and additional info about FF is at http://forum.scramble.nl/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=118651&start=45

Toying with driving to this show and catching the ferry between Hull - Rotterdam (as opposed to going down the Dover - Calais route). Has anyone used this service, is it expensive?

I use it to go to a festival in Holland later in the year. Its a much shorter drive if your up north rather than going all the way down to Dover. It is an overnight sailing through, usually leaving about 7:30pm and arriving around 9am the next morning in Rotterdam (similar times on the way back). For me it was cheaper to fly if on my own but about the same cost of two people flying and renting a car over there but you can take as much stuff as you can fit in your car of course. Driving on the Dutch roads seems much nicer than a trip down the M1 here.

On the 10th the RNLAF will get a new commander. For the first time as far as I know, the ceremony will take place at the show. Normally this involves a flypast from a number of RNLAF aircraft.

The F-35 joint strike fighter will fly across the Atlantic Ocean this summer to make its international debut — but the United Kingdom won’t be the JSF's first stop.

At least one Dutch F-35A will appear at the Leeuwarden Air Show in the Netherlands in June, according to Lt. Col. Sidney Plankman, chief of public affairs for the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF). The aircraft will be on static display at the show, and the RNLAF is looking into doing a flight demonstration of the plane along with the Dutch F-16s during the show as well, he said.

From Defense News

Let's hope a static here will help there to be a static at RIAT.

Self-confirmation of the Frecce Tricolori at the calendar they tweeted a few hours ago. Looks like a very team heavy show this year.

There will be shuttles, as always.

very easy, there are multiple buses that take you to the station from the base and the journey takes around 10-15mins

By walk its around 30 minutes but its fairly straightforward.

According to the official website that's the Slovak 29 back, but this time as a flying participant which would be great news if true.

It's not that bad, in all honesty, just completely blown out the water by its Belgian counterpart.
