Athens Flying Week 2016
Re: Athens Flying Week 2016
Friends Good afternoon.
As I promised to post info when its final .
So.... "spotters" is a "yes". There will be a special place foreseen VERY near to the RWY...
The "spotters" ticket will be valid for all of the following:
Wednesday and Thursday during the arrivals on that "special" spot
Friday - Test flights on grand stand at spectators enclosure
Saturday & Sunday airshow on grand stand at spectators enclosure
Monday during departures on the "special" spot again.
The transfers to and from the special spot will be on vehicles of the organization since.... it is..... between RWY and Taxiway..
38.336252, 23.578609
Hope you find the spot interesting.....
And an unofficial hint... If you like vintage aircrafts.... hm...... and not only static.....
But lets keep our fingers crossed to end up as official and you will be the first to know...
Concerning TATOI and the war museum I can ask but officially it will not have anything to do with AFW...
PS
I forgot.
Unfortunately for security reasons there will NOT be a fly-inn at Tanagra AFB. We are looking for alternative airfields and possible transportation from there. If you are considering it contact AOPA Greece.

Re: Athens Flying Week 2016
Hi Fokion,
if you allow, I have some suggestions about the Flying Week in Tanagra
1) I think, it would be better, if one could choose also separate days regarding the spotter package. For example, Friday+Saturday or only Sunday or Monday, etc. Almost one whole week is a lot of time (and money). Especially for people coming from abroad.
2) With the move to Tanagra, I really really hope that you will use the opportunity to invite also "ordinary" military stuff and not only displays. For example, something from Bulgaria as neighbor of Greece would be great. Or Romania. Also, due to the new special relationships with Egypt and Israel, maybe it would not be a bad idea to send a invitation there I personally think, that this would be a additional reason for more people and aviation enthousiast to come.
3) Regarding displays, this season is the last of the French Ramex Delta Team. I think, Tanagra would be a beautiful place to see them for a last time!!!
4) Maybe a flyby of different Frontex/Coastguard planes and helicopters could be arranged?
Keep up the good work and see you there

Re: Athens Flying Week 2016
Thank you for the opportunity to go into more details!!!!!!!
1. Noted and will be proposed to the Organizing Committee ( OC ). By the way a possible comb could be Thursday ( arrivals ) - Friday ( test ) - Sat ( Show ) or Sunday ( Show ) - Monday ( departures ).
2. All neighboring Countries ( and not only ) were invited. Acceptance ( or denial ) is what we wait from some time now.
Just for discussion purposes.
Invitations are ( were ) send in October - November the previous year the latest in order to get into their "under evaluation" status.
After that they most probably say "not accepted - too late".
3. Also invited all mentioned ( and not only ).
4. Specially coast guard has "their hands full". But again "whatever flyies in the area and can make a small detour during a mission" is already invited and more than welcome.
"Even one minute before appearance" notices have already been send to the appropriate people!!!
We try to do our best under the general circumstances.
I do hope many people enjoy everybody's effort!!!
We are deeply honored by HAF permitting us to make the Air Show at Tanagra.

Re: Athens Flying Week 2016
From Serbia with Love! Aero Klub 'Galeb' team will give a unique performance with the the perfectly preserved Soko G-2 Galeb of former Yugoslav Air Force at Tanagra Air Base during 5th #AthensFlyingWeek.
Fokion's note:
We will make an effort to manage extracting it from static display during the show, so to be both static AND flying... We will see...

.
I did ask in today's meeting with the HAF officials.
The War Museum at Tatoi IS open for public on Saturdays and Sundays from 09.00 to 18.00 ( Times to be confirmed ).
Imperative to have your passport with you.
What I asked additionally was the possibility that it could be open ALSO within the AFW week.
I am not too optimistic on that though since it would require re-scheduling their manpower program for an unknown number of visitors.
