Dear AIRPOWER19 community,

We are aware of the current rumours regarding the potential cancellation of AIRPOWER19.

Any decisions of this nature will be made at the political level. Until then, the entire AIRPOWER19 organising team is fully committed to continue to work hard for you on a sensational air show.

translated from Austrian newspaper....

Rumors about cancellation of the "Airpower" in Zeltweg
Three months before the million-euro air show, new minister has projects reviewed: The event could burst.

Exactly three months before the " Airpower " in Zeltweg rumors surfaced : The air show in Upper Styria could burst. The trigger for the debate was a broadcast by the former Minister of Infrastructure and now FPÖ club leader Nordert Hofer on Thursday, in which he called for the "implementation of the event".

Governor Hermann Schützenhöfer , ÖVP , announced on Thursday that he did not expect a refusal and referred to the "great economic significance" of the air show . Ministry of Defense spokesman Michael Bauer said on Twitter that the new minister, Thomas Starlinger, is testing all projects for utility and economy - "with special emphasis on the precarious budgetary situation". That also applies to the " Airpower ". In the KURIER conversation, Bauer specified that StarlingerFor some of the 80 or so projects currently underway, there is an increased need for communication, including the air show . Within ten days at the latest, it should be clear if and how " Airpower " will continue.

300,000 visitors
In September 2016, about 300,000 visitors came to Zeltweg , this year for the 6th and 7th of september 250 aircraft of all kinds from 29 nations are planned, including famous art squadrons. 4000 soldiers are in action.

CHRONICLE | AUSTRIA
"Airpower" in high-cost flight
As in the past three years, the eighth " Airpower " has budgeted 3.6 million euros to be shared by the federal government, the state of Styria and Red Bull . However, the estimates in the past few years have never been realistic: the Court of Auditors complained in 2016 that the expenditures for the " Airpower " in 2009, 2011 and 2013 were each a quarter higher than planned.

Indeed... EasyJet flights moreover, in my case, which are notoriously impossible to cancel.

If the show does get binned I’ll have wasted a reasonable chunk of money.

Latest news: AirPower will take place as planned! Confirmed by MOD according to orf.at

Hoping for more participants now, it does look tame compared to previous editions so far...

On the latest version of the SwAFHF schedule, it has the Draken listed for Zeltweg. (Viggen & Tunnen to Southport).

Hopefully the Airpower website starts to get updated soon to get some of the items rumoured/self confirmed listed officially!

From the Airpower Facebook a few weeks ago they announced constant updates from the end of June....

Well they have announced the Swiss Hornet but otherwise secret squirrel.
Wonder if RIAT and AIRPOWER marketing teams should find a happy middle ground?

The comms around this event have been so awful that I've sacked it, and I know of at least two others who have done the same. A shame, as I was (in theory) looking forward to it, but the lack of info (which at one point included a lack of clarity as to whether the show was even going ahead at all) kinda forced my hand.

100% Agreed PeterR! It would appear that the "it's on/ it's off" shenanigans have cost them confirmed responses. Far too many (tba) at this stage for my liking. For anybody that's previously attended Airpower this list, should it happen, is very much 'seen it/ done it in sunshine!'
Definitely RIAT-style Marketing by bulking-out the list with the Cobra TAH-1F & put 'Cancelled' next to it? Damn right Cancelled. :clown: This is the one that self-destructed after clipping the Fuel-shed on route to the pumps IIRC?
I'm with you Skyflash, our group bailed-out of Zeltweg this week to cut our losses!

Four airshows that weekend and this was top of my list with accommodation booked but I bailed as well about a month ago as the list was way too thin to convince me to book flights. And we have the Viggen and Tunnan at Southport so why travel to Austria.

Worth pointing out that's from an unofficial list, the official list on the official Airpower website has considerably less listed!! For example; according to the official website, the grand total of the flying display line-up is as follows:

    Frecce Tricolori
    Patrouille Suisse
    Patrulla Àguila
    Breitling Jet Team
    Krila Oluje
    The Flying Bulls (DC-6, P-38, Corsair, B-25 & Stearman)
    Red Bull Team Blanix
    Red Bull Aerobatic Triple
    Swiss Hornet
    Belgian F-16
    Hungarian Gripen
    Austrian Typhoon
    Austrian SAAB 105
    Austrian PC-6 Porter
    Austrian S-70
    Austrian Bell 212
    Austrian Alouette III
    Austrian OH-58
    Swiss Super Puma
    Belgian A109

Lots more aircraft listed on unofficial sources, including some 'self-confirmations' such as Zeus F-16 & Team Orlik. But taking the unofficial list from 'airshowinfo' there's plenty more on there, and other lists have really exciting aircraft listed such as the Portuguese Merlin & Discovery Skyhawk! With 20 days to go, I'd just like a full official list of what aircraft to expect to whet my appetite. I know when we get to Zeltweg we'll have an amazing 5 days om the spotters package - going on the amazing experience in 2016 - but something is lacking from the information flow...

Fair point Peter, but my initial high anticipation including the Portuguese Merlin & Discovery Skyhawk was quickly reduced to ambivalence by lack of positive Official confirmations.
'You Pays Your Money and You Takes Your Choice.' I genuinely hope it works-out well for both yourselves & Airpower 19, but 'I'm out & won't be investing!'

It does look like a website/information problem. Even much of red bulls aircraft not yet listèd.

German forum poster with seeming good knowledge says lots of good stuff to come but does not know why marketing are keeping "Sun behind mountain with "surprises"

To me more interesting as we don't know what will come. Like airshows of old.

I see F 86 now booked for melun. Seems more likely for French warbird than zeltweg

Few more snippets of information I've read on other forums & social media... :dunno:

    > The F-86 Sabre will perform a dogfight with the Czech MiG-15UTi during the flying display.
    > Unlikely to see Austrian C-130K in the flying display due to issues with fleet serviceability (cracks in the wings).
    > Swiss Hawker Hunter, in tiger livery, rumoured to be in attendance. Not sure if flying or static.
    > NATO E-3A Sentry due for static display.

This was postet on FB by Czech Flying Legends so I guess the Sabre will be there:

This year we will perform at Airpower 2019 in Zeltweg! And who is coming definitely won't regret it. We (Remark: MIG-15UTI) will perform "Dogfight" with F-86 Sabre on Friday and Saturday 6. and 7. September! Right after CIAF we fly from Hradec to Austria, where we will train hard for this unique performance.

Another information on FB by the Hunter operator states that the Tiger Hunter HB-RVV will be flying also together with Patrouille Suisse just like they have done at Zigermeet last week.

Mistral warbirds F-86 will attend both Zeltweg and Melun, as stated on his Facebook page.
