Sanicole's Tiger Airshow
Re: Sanicole's Tiger Airshow
I think the Corsair was always pencilled into display - looking forward to this more and more

The U.S Air Force sends two of its well-known tankers to our airshow. Both the KC-10 and the KC-135 will be starring in our flying display. With this final participation our flying program is being finalized and we will guarantee a unique time schedule on Sunday which you never saw before in Sanicole.

At first, the Corsair was confirmed, then dropped off for maintenance and replaced by the Alpha Jet, but it's back on the confirmed list.

This will be my first trip to Sanicole - I wonder if you could share any tips or info of a practical nature - e.g. are there likely to be big queue`s to get in, what time do gates open, what is the flightline like and are we shooting into the sun all day. If you dont want to clog up the board please pm me please
many thanks for any info Frank

Re: Sanicole's Tiger Airshow
Queues, difficult to say. If you have tickets, I think you'll be in within 5 minutes--that's the way it used to be in previous years. Keep in mind that the walk from the parking to the entrance may take up to 15-20 minutes, or as little as 5, depending on where you're parked. Gates open at 8AM, flying starts at 10:00.
Shooting into the sun
You can draw your own conclusion... It's not all that bad, ok, you'll still have the sun sideways, but starting at 15:00, you can make nice pictures in the opposite direction of the sun. Don't look greedy-eyed at the concrete opposite the public, that is unaccessible military domain.
Crowd is parallel to the display line, most planes take off from Kleine Brogel, only a limited number of small planes and some helicopters fly from Sanicole itself. I'm a bit concerned about the Italian chopper in static. In the past, helicopters that were only static were sometimes parked in the crowdzone with fences closeby and 360°, so this may prove challenging if repeated.

Re: Sanicole's Tiger Airshow
Hats off to anyone who got any decent photographs, it cannot have been easy with that hazy sun all day and in front. Saturday was a good day watching the re-hearsals. Surprised how relaxed it was to enter the field whilst the setting up was going on. Even managed to buy discounted tickets for showday whilst there.
A great line up, marred only by the poor visability and a shortened display by because of the delay caused from the numerous 737 flypasts (I see that at Gatwick everyday). Sean Maffitt seemed to be agitated by that as well! Some unusual formations: Blades and Jetair B737, XH558 and 4 Belgium F16s, Belgium F16 and Patrouille Suise, Belgium F16 and Mustang (anyone know where the P38 went? was going to be a trio). A couple of other formations were cancelled due to the visability, but the Tiger tail parade and formation made it (albeit as silhouettes!).
...and last but not least the toilets. I thought Koksidje was expensive at 50Cent a go, but here it was 1 euro. But atleast you got to go all day for that, and you got to wear an all inclusive wristband with the strap line 'Festitoilet ..we take the sh*t of your event'
edit: http://www.festitoilet.be/festitoilet.be/ just in case I get carded for misuse of an * . I was merely quoting!

Re: Sanicole's Tiger Airshow
Agree with FBN, anyone who got good photos please post them. I dont think I have ever seen such evil conditions for photos as sunday ( sat was marginally better).
Will post some just to show how bad it was. Shame as the display lineup was Europes best for me with M2000 four shiP, KC1O, KC135, BAF F16 4 ship, Alpha Jet, Tiger parade, Dutch F16, Vulcan etc etc but a number of these displays were cancx due to poor visibility. All in all very frustrating.

Yes,bad conditions for photo's.
Real shame that XH558 Display was so short, not much of a howl either and no sprial climb, despite sunny clear skies, personally think the TVOC are pushing the endurance with 4 displays in 1 day and was the fuel an issue with the shortened display, also she appeared to be unaware of the F16 escort, was very messy, seemed to want to shake them off or having difficulty with navigation with such a small airfield.

Not sure about the clear skies(!) but I thought the agressive wing waggles on arrival with the F16s were a bit odd. Like you say did she want the F16s there (that's the impression it gave) or was there a communication problem? After the big build up, and then a 5 minute wait to her actual arrival, even Sean Maffett seemed to get a little agitated at the delay. At least the messy break from the Falcons ended in a nice n' close rear crowd pass presenting probably the best picture opportunity of the day not into sun.
