Just wondering was it ever established what caused the fog at the Sunderland Airshow in 2008
as it was quite localised and i dont think it had ever happened before at the show. Or are seafogs quite common at Sunderland and its just been the luck of the draw
it hasnt happened at the show in the past ? I am trying to remember what the temperature was there that day ? any info would be appreciated
Regards
It wasn't that localised. On the way home we stopped to see what the conditions were like at Whitley Bay (coastal town) on the Sunday and it was the same there too. Fog like that isn't uncommon and I've seen my father's old camcorder tapes from past shows where similar conditions are on show, although admittedly there is still some flying able to take place. Certainly, it was much more 'extreme' than anything seen before to scrub the entire show I'd say. As for the temperature, I can't tell you what it was, but I was out on the pier on both days and I can confirm that it was sweltering. One thing I would say is that having those same conditions roll in, of the exact same severity for two days in a row was extremely unlikely, and a severe case of bad luck!
