Welcome barte, the pier is the best place I would say (free entry still) as it brings you closer to the display line, occasional aircraft fly over to! It does become quite crowded though.

Hope this helps and have a great day

Josh

The pier is the best place in my opinion, easy the best.

First time to UKAR, although been a reader for a while. I got a question to you guys regarding the Clacton Airshow best spotter place.
Never been to UK airshow before (maybe Claction wouldnt the first choice for a a first airshow in UK in favour of RIAT for instance, but schedule looks quite impressive:). So, coming from Poland to St. Albans for a couple of days, I plan to go to Clacton on Thursday, if the weather is decent enough;) What is the best place to watch & photograph while having 500mm range? Is it very crowdy there usually?
I have seen some photos from the event but it is hard to tell since they only reflect a bit of the coast..

Will be obliged for some info.

I haven't been to Clacton for some time, but when I last went we got a seat on the pier which was a good place, albeit you are side on to the display a bit but I quite liked it there.

In previous years I've arrived at the end of the pier about 20 minutes before the flying has started with no problems. It's fairly busy, but not rammed to the extent where there's no space to sit down.
Just be wary of the traffic heading in to Clacton if you're not travelling in early.

I think I will be travelling by train :)
even though I can rent a car from, I cant imagine driving "on tthe other side of the road" without causing some danger to all others;)

What is the car parking like for the show as my parents have decided to come as well. Are there any dedicated car parks?

there is normally a temporary car park on the field immediately east (town side) of the airfield in West Road, the flying club post code is CO15 1AG which should help to find it on a map or for SATNAV although the bulk of the traffic will probably be heading for there anyway. From the car park exit you walk towards the town for about 1/2 mile (or if you see Hastings Aavenue on the sea side of the road as you are walking along West Road, that leads straight to the beach and will almost halve the walk).

Also Clacton Golf Club is opposite the airfield and there are signs to that on some of the roads (not the Millers Barn Golf Club - that's a different one north west of the airfield).

Hope that helps, enjoy the show

Is the pier roughly crowd centre, or to one side? Thinking of doing this on Thursday as the lineup looks decent!

Thinking of parking at Thorpe-le-Soken station and training it in.

From memory (and its been a good few years since i've been there) it is at one end, I do remember a Jaguar tearing across the sky above us and my mum jumping out of her skin (not literally of course). As a kid which I was at the time I found this rather funny, and too this day we don't let mum live that one down!

In light of the CAA announcement today, we can confirm that the event has now been fully approved, with no changes to the published display.

The Vulcan is down to do a flypast at Lakenheath at about 16:00, so I would imagine that it will be displaying before or around 15:30.

Rather cloudy, cold and windy down here at Clacton at the moment, not ideal.

Damn. The 50d would pick today to die on me. Gonna be strange watching the Vulcan for the last time with both eyes open.

Just need someone to swipe the cloud out the way, and to turn the wind off...

Then it'd be lovely!!

I'm expecting a couple of cancellations cos of the wind - anyone heard of any?
