Post by Mooshie1956 »

So the dates have been announced and it's a July show date of the 6th to the 8th.
no clash with Scampton then next year.

That's going to feel a bit weird. I always associate Southport with the end of the summer, not the start, but I suppose it's something to do with the tides.

It was held in July in 2011 was it? It's going to make the sunset show a bit late. Sunset will be about 9.30pm.

Bit rubbish really, that's all three big northern Englands shows in a month, Southport, Sunderland and Blackpool.

Are you sure?

According to Flightline/Military Airshows it is down for Just the Saturday & Sunday, plus the Display teams tweeted schedule only says its two days on there aswell.

For me its the same **** as last year so far, so unless they attract something which has never been displayed at Southport before then I'm definitely giving this one a miss.

Yes it does look just like Sat/Sun...

I did ask why Southport has been removed and got this reply. "Unfortunately due to the logistics of providing Engineering support and the distance between venues has forced the alterations".

It will be what it is, I'll still go whatever as it's classed as my local, but the masses won't be to pleased last year no Reds and this year no Typhoon.Reds aren't guaranteed either yet as they will most probably go to Yeovilton and come up with some lame excuse not to come North. The RAF aren't really showing themselves in good light to the people of the North West.

They don't really have a choice as they are governed by the tides.

I know it's each to their own but the stuff I go to see doesn't need a beach & in the grand scheme of things most people don't drive into town and park on the beach as the traffic on a show weekend is so bad.

The Typhoon not coming is bad news but the Reds are back after missing last year.

A good chance to get some interesting warbirds up north. Whats the betting it's full of generic display teams though.

Well, luckily, yes, it is each to their own. Southport offers some ace spectating and photography opportunities and the beach location is a massive part of that. It is as Chris says an opportunity to see some new things, and it will be a good show as ever. I hope the attendance doesn't take a hit though.

And being positive - Reds at the evening show, in that Southport light.. great!

Anyone heard any half decent rumours, 8 weeks to go and just a few displays announced for the weekend. It's looking a bit grim at the moment.
