Billy Connoly has to be the top of the list

Certainly high up, but I do have to put the subtitles on for him.

Probably Billy Connolly at the top of the pile.
Jerry Sadowitz is very funny if you like controversial stuff....his magic is pretty damn good too.
Demetri Martin has some pretty funny material.
Don't find too many of today's "comedians" particularly funny based on what little of them I've seen (don't watch much TV).

I've never known so many stand ups as we see today on TV...
Must admit in the 70s,I looked foreward to Bernard Manning more than anyone else,he did a lot of quick fires something like.....

"Chap was sitting in the dentists chair,as the dentist raised the drill,he placed a hand around the dentists testicles and said...
Now,we're not going to hurt each other are we?"

think about that as you next lay back on the dentist chair

Again in no particular order

Reginald D Hunter
Stephen K Amos
Lee Mack
Al Murray
Tony Hancock (not really a comedian per-say)
Eddie Murphy (Raw and Delirious are outrageous!)
Joe Pasquale (saw him Blackpool live, absolutely wet myself)
Jeff Dunham (Saw him last year, haven't laughed so hard in my life)
Tommy Cooper
Shappi Khorsandi
Jack Dee
Billy Connolly
Brian Conley
Lenny Henry
and Robin Williams

Again with David Mitchell, I think he's great on panel shows as with Phill Jupitus, Bill Bailey and Sean Lock

I have to say that I find very few "comedians" funny these days. It seems that they think that if they shriek obscenity and profanity loud enough, that is comic.

Don't see it myself. I would have to go for the likes of John Cleese, Peter cook (but absolutely not Derek and Clive) and people like that.

That's a long list! I agree with most of them except Billy Connolly. I saw him once in stand-up, and a couple of hours of mainly toilet jokes were a bit too much for me. Wouldn't pay to see him again.

Tony Hancock was in a league of his own, although people now won't remember that his shows without Sid James, and the other regulars was a bit of a gamble for him. There was a lot of speculation at the time that he wouldn't be much good without them, but things like 'The Blood Donor' and 'The Radio Ham' are quite rightly seen as classics now.

Also really like Reg Hunter, very droll! You don't come across many people called Reginald these days!

My Dad got me interested in Tony Hancock when I was young and I absolutely love him, such a shame he died so young. I bought three audiobooks off itunes and listen to them nearly every day

It is a long list but what can I say, I genuinely like them all

What comedians do we like then?

Postby TomTwin on Wed 09 Nov 2011, 11:45 pm

Just watching Fresh Meat on Channel 4 featuring among others Jack Whitehall, not a bad show actually! Though the times I saw Russell Howard and Rhod Gilbert in Liverpool and Wrexham are the best 2 gigs I have been to! Hope Milton Jones comes to Wrexham soon!

I would have to say the following:

Bill Bailey
Ed Byrne
Dylan Moran
Richard Pryor
Milton Jones
Not exactly a comedian but Chris Morris for the likes of Brass Eye, The Day Today and the 2010 film Four Lions.

You!

Surely you mean criminals?

When you say comedians do we mean just those that do standup and not comedy writers or TV comedy performers?

These are my best standup
- Eddie Izzard
- Jimmy Carr
- Bill Hicks
- Bill Maher
- Ricky Gervais
- Steve Coogan
- Dara O'briain

The funniest standup show I have ever seen (on TV) is Dara O'briain's.

From way back Dave Allen, one of the best shows on TV at the time. Billy Connoly, he's just a great laugh. I've just had a senior moment and can't recall if I've got the name right, but "The now show" is back on Radio 4 on Fridays at 6PM, and it is usaually a good laugh, and one moment from it I won't forget, was a monologue by Marcus Brigstock about the Abrahamic Faiths, that was both funny and a scathing attack on religous zealots, and their hatred of the other Abrahamic faiths.
"Nice pics mate" comments only! No criticism please.
