I am loving the trailer and can't wait to go and see it.

I am going to be a wreck. The trailer was emotional enough.

So the trailer did was it was intended to do... I have often found that the better the trailer the worse the film. Let's hope not in this case but as a lover of the book I just hope Spielberg hasn't done one of his saccharine and treacle jobs on it.

Early Spielberg, yes, but what's he done as a director that's been any good since Schindler's List?

Off the top of my head.
Saving Private Ryan
A.I. - Artificial Intelligence
The Adventures of Tintin

I'm sure there are plenty of others. I find it odd that some can be so dismissive of a director responsible for some of the finest movies of the last 50 years. Still, each to their own.

Not my cup of tea. Saving Private Ryan, beyond the opening beach scenes, was pretty dire hyperbolic flag-waving fare - so much so that Speilberg and Hanks recognised as much, and made sure they produced Band of Brothers - a far more accurate depiction of the Allied invasion.

Of course it is all down to personal taste but I thought Ryan overblown and AI poor. I have not seen Tin Tin but it got unenthusiastic reviews...

Early Spielberg - has he ever bettered his first ever feature - Duel?

Going tonight to see War Horse, don't want to really and not looking forward to it in the slightest but you've got to earn brownie points with the Mrs some how... especially when I want to do Axalp this year

He has.

There's also a scene involving barbed wire from which you'd get the impression that getting tangled in barbed wire is like getting tangled in string. I actually found that rather distasteful given the horrific injuries and even deaths so many men suffered when in similar circumstances.

Play is surprisingly good, just depends if Spielberg can carry it off.

I'll be going to see this with cautious optimism. As has been said, recent Spielberg films have been hit and miss. War of the Worlds was god awful and didnt deserve to carry the title.

But yes, apart from Saving Private Ryan, Artificial Intelligence, Munich, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal - what has Spielberg ever done for us?

Ok went to see it last night. All felt a bit light and Disney really. My wife who's seen the play said it wasn't a patch on that (to be expected really)
Was expecting to find it to be a moving experience, tugging on the heart strings etc but nah.. nothing like that. The lead role (other than the horse) is played by a fairly wooden actor that I just couldn't warm to. The 2.5 hours didn't drag though so something must have been right although I wouldn't be in a hurry to see it again.

I haven't seen it yet but I believe there was deliberate effort to make sure it was suitable for children with a 12A certificate.

Saw it last night, It was ok.

I thought the film is kinda like cross between "The Littlest Hobo" and "Champion the Wonder Horse".

I heard the acting by the horse was terrible - constantly chewing the scenery...
