In grumpy old man mode!

I'd just like to point one thing out with reference to my use of the word "issue" and the fact it's in here as a point of annoyance to some (the general use of it, not purely my own use of it might I add). From the collins onlin thesaurus

issue
noun
= topic, point, matter, problem, business, case, question, concern, subject, affair, argument, theme, controversy, can of wormsinformal ■ Is it right for the Church to express a view on political issues?

From the Cambridge online dictionary

issue
noun ( SUBJECT ) /ˈɪʃ.uː/, /ˈɪs.juː/ n [C]
Definition
a subject or problem which people are thinking and talking about
environmental/ethical/personal issues
To have difficulty or disagreement with someone or something

Thus rendering my use and that of many other people valid and correct use of the word as a noun.

Issue used as a verb it is different story.

So, while it may be annoying to someone that a particular word is used in some cases it does not mean the word used is in any way incorrect.

There is no denying that. My gripe is that it is now used EXCLUSIVELY by many in public life to the exclusion of the alternatives available. There is a general dumbing down of vocabulary use. English has one of the richest vocabularies in the world and we waste it.

Rather than the incorrect usage of grammar which is being refered to.I am totally bemused by the need for a majority of people who wish to speak with an american accent when they clearly are not . :lmao:

I have to get this off my chest................

The main gripe I have is....

"Solutions" or "Systems"

Before titles used to be for example
1 - "Window Cleaning needs" now its "Window Solutions"
2 - "Parcel Delivery, for all your office needs" now its "Parcel Systems/ Solutions"

WHY!!!!!!!!!

In court, I heard a barrister say "... he proceeded forwards in an ambulatory manner..."

Judge said "...so he was walking?"

Another one I heard was in reference to a pen. It was noted as being called a "manual recording impliment" :lmao:

Anyone noticed that more and more businesses don't have staff any more. No such thing as shop assistants, they're customer advisors. No more 'Staff Announcements' they are now 'Colleague Announcements'. Management speak and buzz words - always have and always will loathe them.

People who use the word revert instead of refer or reply.

I.e please can you look at this work and revert back to me?

First noticed our India office doing it, then people over here started.

Another good one from our Indian Friends "Please do the Needful"

"Please revert" is one of the ones I have seen a few times, I have even seen my Manager use it in his emails.

It's quite easy really. If you're referring to the weekend for instance what's wrong with 'have a good weekend'? Simples! Oh no, wait a minute, that's another one that may get up some peoples noses!

Someone in a brainstorm at work once reffered to "vegetable management products" as part of his input. He was of course talking about a potato peeler.

Maybe "Completely Useless Nuisance Telephonist" would be a more suitable term!

You aren't allowed to use the term "brainstorm" any more! Didn't you Get The Memo?

Mr Political Correctness - that chap in the dark basement, permanently detached from real life and real people, who's job it is to take offense at words and phrases on behalf of others - deemed that word potentially offensive to people with epilepsy.

This is the same chap who thinks I shouldn't use the word "wife" when referring to the lady I married, the love of my life - because I might offend gay people. I am supposed to say "partner" or somesuch instead. Ironically, *I* am offended at the idea of calling her my "partner" since to me, that sounds like what you'd use for a short-term, informal or business relationship... instead of the permanent relationship of love and dedication that it actually is. BAH.

I have some friends who are gay, and after hearing this I actually asked them what they thought. They thought it was as ridiculous as I did. Shame Mr Political Correctness doesn't bother to ask minority groups what they think, before issuing his decrees :-P
