Syndol Migraine Tablets

Postby marshalmartin on Fri 27 Apr 2012, 9:23 pm

Dear All

Just trying to help a friend out that suffers badly from migraines and the only tablet that helped her was Syndol and appealing to see if anyone takes this for migraines.

Unfortunately its not available in the UK any more due to a licensing issue but may be back later in the year.

Does anyone use this tablet and if so is there anywhere in the country or Europe possibly that supplies this tablet. Only place i found is Zimbabwe.

Thanks in anticpation

I suffer from them as well but don't know anything about syndol. I would say tell her to go to her GP and get a prescription migraine tablet as they are amazing (think mine are called zolmitriptan) Although the last time I went I was advised to take 4 paracetamol and 4 ibuprofen together and go to bed. Seemed to help by way of KO but I would prefer the prescription pills any day of the week.

Not really an answer to your query but maybe it'll be of some use.

Which nobody should try without medical advice, I would suggest.

I suffer from migraine and use "Migralieve" http://www.migraleve.co.uk/tips.aspx Dehydration can be a strong trigger so it is important to drink water regularly, also avoiding strong cheese, Chocolate and smoked meat products.
I found that keeping a diary of what food and drink I had, and also other aspects of daily life such as sleep/tiredness and stress helped identify some triggers, the main ones were stress and irregular sleep. The first signs I get of an oncoming migraine are aching behind my left eye, sweaty neck and heavy yawning, usually drinking a pint of water and taking one pink migralieve will stop the onset.
However, it is important to see the doctor as severe headaches can be the sign of other problems!

One of the other triggers for migraine can be light sensitivity, or artificial light sensitivity.

I work with lighting design being part of my work. It means I sometimes talk to "users"! They sometimes report that fluorescent lighting sources can seem to flicker to them. This flickering does seem to be seen by a small percentage of people and seems not to help migraine sufferers.

The other issue with lighting can be bright lights when looked at that have an almost overloading affect on the eye. This can be referred as a glare problem. Most people have suffered this when driving or in the front passenger seat at night and on-coming car headlights are full beam at you. The intensity of the light almost hurts your eye, you can even try to avert your gaze.

Again another trigger for migraines, or if combined with tiredness, diet issues, or stress can set off a migraine.

There maybe other triggers as well.

Severe cases and regular cases should refer to a GP, for better medication or help controlling the problem via changes to diet, etc.
I suffer from Autosomal-dominant Compelling Helio Opthalmic Outburst Syndrome.

I used to suffer from migraines a lot, sometimes they would last a whole week, my G.P prescribed Amitryptalene which is actually an anti-depressant! It did work though! However, I have just replaced my monitor and I have not had a migraine since. Compared to my new monitor the old one seemed incredibly bright so I'm thinking that could have been a trigger for mine!

I do hope your friend can find some relief as migraines are really nasty.

I too used to suffer and found my trigger to be dehydration, so now I make sure to drink at least 2 litres of fluid a day. If however one starts I can't do anything to stop it and then I lose vision in my right eye by way of blurring. This in turn makes me nauseous so I have to make myself vomit and then go to sleep in a darkened room. I'm usually out for a minimum of 12 hours and lose the nex 24 hours is a sort of daze where I can barely function.

I tried Migraleve and it seemed to do the trick but I once got the two pills mixed up in my confused state and ended up KO'ing myself whilst at college

Same here, they started when I was a child, trigger back then was eating fish and chips, and crisps, must have been something to do with the fat that they are or were cooked in I suppose? Once I figured out that I had a migraine every time I had eaten them I stopped! Didn't get another one for many years. Don't get them often now I'm happy to say, but I did get three one after the other when my father died a few years ago, so I suppose that the trigger now is stress. I don't really know if migraines are fully understood even now, but they do seem to run in families which is the case in mine.

Migraines are more prolific than I thought!
Had a few migraines up to about the age of around 28,in those years I would blame a certain type of paint (acrylic) or smoking in certain situations...I stopped using acrylic paint and packed up smoking for a couple of years, and never had another true migraine of magnitude, had I nailed the cause of my migraines?,apparently not......since that time I have used acrylic paints many times over, and took up smoking again years ago,so in hindsight I believe it was probably stress of some sort, maybe a combination of things...my wife didnt have them when I did,but has had them for over 20 yrs, shes tried everything offered, even had injections.....I doubt there is a single cause,or a single cure.

I found this from the Net Doctor site recently when trying to help a relative who suffers intermittently but badly. And sympathy and painkillers of many types is about all the GP can offer.

When I had them, like many others it seems, the only thing I could do was to find somewhere dark, lay down until either I vomited(after which I usually miraculously recovered!)or slept it off, spent a few hours in such places as cement sheds!
My experience was for a mere few years, and only a handful per year at that....
I dont know why I escaped from them,I certainly still get stress at times!

That just about describes my experience when I was a child, although I always threw up back then. Really looked forward to the throwing phase as I knew that the awful head pain would then start to ease! And it was always over one eye. I always knew when I was in for it when my vision started to go and one arm went numb. If I was out on my bike I had to get home in double quick time if I could before the dreaded head started. :dizzy:

I think it's heavy computer use that did it for me. I was working in admin and infront of a PC all day and of course when I got home I jumped straight on the PC for social networking, forums and gaming. Once I switched jobs and was outside all day away from a PC the migraines stopped. I sometimes get them in the summer if I haven't taken an anti-histamine (sp) as eventually the hayfever symptoms will morph into a migraine. I always found throwing up eased it too, god knows why! The best relief I got before the amitryptalene was those self adhesive cool gel strips which I think are the Migralieve brand too.

I get tension headaches now which are always triggered by stress or long motorbike rides, once I feel my shoulder and neck muscles starting to lock up I know a severe headache will soon follow, sometimes they last for days but thankfully they are not as bad as a full blown migraine.

Isn't human body fascinating/annoying
