President Trump

eric - that's a helluva stretch. Any other President who 'mispoke' would have corrected himself immediately and apologised.

Trump is in a league of his own and it seems strange to me that some would choose to try to support him by picking out errors by other Presidents.

Exactly. We're in uncharted territory.

Trump has banned CNN, NYT and Politico from a White House Press Conference.
One out all out in this case I think.

Absolutely incredible. It matters not which side of the political debate you fall. Any reasonable person allows the freedom of the press. Any person of power only allowing media that is positive about them into press conferences in dangerous.

Trump's clearly not as competent as he thinks he is if he has to prevent CNN, NYT, Politico, LAT etc from his press conferences. These aren't bedroom websites set up by someone with political agendas, these are real, legitimate, recognised and established media organisations.

This dangerous idiot has sworn to defend the Constitution. Which includes a section about ensuring the freedom of the press. Which he is himself not upholding.

The press must stand up against this collectively.

Can't recall him arresting any journalists, editors or owners, nor has he closed down any newspapers or broadcasters, all he's done is refused them access to a press conference......but then, has he actually refused them access or just threatened to do so ?

Besides....he hasn't overtly supported terrorists ; He hasn't started any wars ; He hasn't instigated illegal regime change ; He hasn't had anyone assassinated/murdered ( that we know of ) so that puts him ahead of most of his recent predecessors.

Nope he hasn't and invoking godwins law means comparing someone to Hitler means the argument is lost before it has begun.

If the reports are true, then it's sanitising the press, we all know where that can lead.

Didn't Obama ban ( or threaten to ban ) 'Russia Today', not to mention the concerted nefarious campaign to close them down by having their assets frozen & the attempts to block their social media feeds ?
Or would that be different because it's an evil Russian media outlet as opposed to the honest freedom-loving good old USA media outlets.....

Godwin's Law doesn't mean the argument is lost before it's begun, if it's correct to apply it.

Well no, but he's only been in office 5 metaphorical minutes. I don't think even George Dubya had managed to inflict too much damage in a month.

Don't defend him by comparing him to other presidents. Trump is totally different. For a start, he's not (or at least he wasn't) a politician.

It's a mess, one that he's making worse for himself by the day - something I for one am glad about.

Which is the reason why a lot of those who did so voted for him.....they were sick of the 'professional politicians' spouting platitudes whilst failing to actually do anything.
Despite what some see as his racist rhetoric during the campaign, a large percentage of non-WASPs voted for him.

And, naturally, now that he has been elected, he now *is* a politician with all of the duties and responsibilities that that entails. I never could get over how asinine that argument was/is.

Same way that some people in the UK are bemoaning the fact that we have an increasing number of politicians who have never had what they consider to be a 'proper job' -- they've followed the same route of : University -> Party researcher -> local candidate -> MP -- or that too many MPs are from the legal profession and are therefore seen as being 'out of touch' with 'normal people'.

The Hitler-Trump comparison works in that respect.....both came from non-political backgrounds & both promised the electorate exactly what they wanted to hear, with the emphasis on employment & 'our Country first'.

No, maybe not but even simple good manners means treating a guest in a certain way. Trump is behaving like a petulant child that isn't getting his own way. Maybe he needs a spell on the naughty step to reflect on his behaviour....

With reference to the previously mentioned Goodwins law and Hitler, every time I see Trump, he reminds me of Mussolini.
