Severn Valley Steam Gala

The annual Steam Gala took place down on the Severn Valley Railway last weekend with an interesting mix of visiting locomotives and others from the home stable.

Liking these, very nice.

Could you reveal a few secrets on the post-processing - some desaturation / HDR going on?

Some lovely photos of some gorgeous locos.

No real secrets with the processing and no HDR!

All shots edited in Lightroom with the shadows slightly lifted and a combination of a neutral density filter dropped over the lightest parts which helps bring out a little more detail in the sky and steam and clarity slider adjusted to bring out detail in the mid-tones.

Certain colours are knocked back and others boosted but only by a tiny amount to suit. That's about it really and maybe 5 - 10 minutes taken on each shot. TBH some work and others don't!

Thanks Tim. I don't have Lightroom but will give some of this a try with the Photoshop / Silkypix tools I have.
