Tour de France - Stage 1

Tour de France - Stage 1

Postby EGL on Mon 31 Jul 2017, 12:52 pm

Managed to take in the first stage of the Tour de France whilst on holiday this year! The stage was an individual time trial round Dusseldorf. Weather made photography rather tricky as it was prettey, grey and wet. Also we got a position under some tree's to stay reasonably dry which added to the overall dim-ness. The result was that in processing some of the rider's skinsuits have come out with a lot of glow around them which I was struggling to get rid off. Also there were cone's up the middle of the road as the riders went past us in both directions - felt like RIAT but tbh I had no desire to attempt to edit them out of the shots!

I've just spotted this post.. great to see a roadside perspective on what was a severely grimy day.

I wish they wouldn't have an individual TT for stage one, but on the bright side it was very good to G this year.

Great stuff.

Certainly was, although due to almost non-existant mobile data on our phone's it wasn't til we got back to where we were staying and watched the highlights that we realised he'd won!

Benefit of an ITT is that there's plenty to see and it's not just one pass and they've gone.

Advantage of a TT is you force some time gaps otherwise all the contenders would be on the same time until the mountains.

Well of course, I agree, and am not averse to an early TT - but Stage 1 should be a hell for leather bunch sprint. A TT on stage one feels like a less-than-full stage, the old fashioned prologue.
