Highlight of my non-aviation photography in 2017 was a trip out to the Isle of Lunga to photograph the Puffin colony there. The birds are so incredibly tame and comical to watch. The weather was absolutely pants but luckily I had a spare rain cover for my kit left over from RIAT 2008

Re: Puffin Patrol
Nice set, I particularly like the pair at their burrow mouth through the vegetation.

Love the sharpness and colours in these Ralph.
Was the boat trip over compatible with those rather prone to sea sickness?

Re: Puffin Patrol
The weather was not good and the boat from Mull to Lunga did provide a dynamic experience - but nobody was ill (there were approx. 18 people on this trip). Some pics to give an idea of the boat and conditions...

Re: Puffin Patrol
Yes, I see what you mean. As a matter of interest, how long did the boat journey take?
Re: Puffin Patrol
Richard,
Looking at the exif data, the timings were:-
10:50 Depart Mull
12:00 Arrive Lunga (Puffins)
13:45 Depart Lunga
14:50 Arrive Staffa (Fingals Cave)
15:56 Depart Staffa
17:00 Arrive Mull
We were staying in Oban, so there was also a ferry ride Oban-Mull before the above and a ferry back to Oban afterwards (about 50 minutes each way).
Cheers,
Ralph

Re: Puffin Patrol
Would have to be very calm to get through that lot unscathed. Dire boat traveller I'm afraid
Re: Puffin Patrol
All hail the mighty puffin! Lovely stuff.
I went to Mull once, many years ago - I don't remember the crossing being too onerous and I am not a brilliant sea-traveller. But then again it was May so the seas were probably relatively calm.

Posting comments on an aviation-related chatroom, are ya? Looks like it an' all...

Lovely stuff, you ought to be very proud of those shots
I've never been here, but I have done the Farne Islands a few times, and I've always been very green by the time the boat landed. Well worth it though.
