More Wildlife........

Post by Airwolfhound »

I've managed to get out to a few reserves over the past couple of months, and was able to get some action through the lens :-

Enjoyed these Tim.

You obviously like photographing squirrels - you should go where the real ones are!

Many thanks for the kind comment. Yes, was very pleased with getting the Bullfinch. They are not really local to where I live, and have to travel to Summer Leys nature reserve to see them up close.

Yes very good, but I have to admit that I'm no fan of gray squirrels and especially brown rats, which we had in the garden recently, but thankfully I haven't seen any lately so they must have been dealt with. I hadn't seen any squirrels for quite some time, but there's at least two about at the moment eating most of the bird food in my neighbours garden. Luckily I have a feeder that they can't get at. It's quite amusing watching them getting very frustrated on the ground looking up at the sunflower hearts and peanuts etc. that are out of reach.

As far as bullfinches are concerned, I used to see them in the garden, not exactly often, but only very rarely nowadays.

Thanks guys. I do have a strong affection towards all wildlife, my favourite being the grey squirrel. I just love their character and are fun to watch. I do actively encourage them by putting out sunflower hearts on a large ground feeder and on occasion I have 3-4 grey squirrels and a couple of black squirrels in the garden at the same time. The wild rat was seen at Rutland Water and not in the back garden. Again, I do like watching the rats, I think the rural brown rat is something a little different than your city/town rat in that they are unlikely to mug you

Yes, it would be great to see the red squirrel in more abundance throughout the country, but humanity thought it better to destroy their woodland/habit and introduce the grey into this country. It is not the fault of the grey, and thus should not be persecuted, even if they are keeping the reds away through carrying a disease. They are non-native and I get all the arguments and opinions about that, but I will always be on the side of all wildlife and will not take part in persecuting any type even if it benefits a native animal over a non-native one.

Thanks again for all the positive comments re the photographs, always appreciated. Hope to add another thread shortly after Christmas with some more wildlife activity :-)
