In my opinion he's tried to be arty but failed. Plus it looks way oversharpened.

Smoke isn't strong enough for the shot to work. Just looks far too empty on the left hand side.

Contrast is way out also. Only a screener could get a shot as poor as that accepted,although it does give the rest of us ammunition for our own images.

Maybe I will get this one accepted now,previously rejected for distant and motiv!

The main subject of these photo(s) is not correctly centered in the image.
In some cases this problem can be corrected.
