So, in summary...
It looks like Canon have somehow managed to crush an 18Mpx APS-C sensor, larger ISOs and HD video into a 1000D body. Mode dial looks huge from the press release shots on the above link. Essentially a 7D super-lite for those with abnormally small hands. Bundles will probably be with the inevitable EF-S 18-55mm F3.5 F5.6 IS and the EF-S 18-135mm F3.5 F5.6 IS lenses.
I'd expect the new EOS 60D will be similar; 18Mpx APS-C sensor, HD Video, 6.3 FPS, 9pt AF System, 63-point iFCL metering system. Looks like a replacement for the BP-511A and BG-E2/N could be around the corner as the EOS XD and XX0D series batteries have both been updated to LP-Es as of late.
