Already covered - http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=68740.

Just started shipping in various locations around the world - some initial reviews also around, with images.

Lots of discussion elsewhere about the lens coatings - definitely aimed at the serious amateur rather than the professionals I think (not that I am one of the latter!).

I recently tried the Tamron 150-600mm (see http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=69395) - I was pretty impressed given the conditions. I wonder if giving up the benefits of the extra 50mm at the short end and the extra 100mm at the long end would be worth it?

The reviews I've read says it's both sharper and has better autofocus than the Sigma but you have to weight that against the loss of 100mm. It's supposed to be good with the 1.4 teleconverter as well so that is an option to get to 700mm if you need the extra reach but it will make it an f8 lens.

Will be interesting to read what aviation photographers think about it and even more interesting if someone tries both the Sigma and Nikon in aviation to see the difference in autofocus and sharpness for this type of photography.

i have got the Tamron 150-600. when this is out i would like to try it i am happy with the Tamrom but i think its abit soft at 600mm i would be willing to trade that 100mm for a sharper lens.

This is a heavy crop from a 600mm shot with the Sigma 150-600 Sports version on a 24mp sensor for comparison....

If the Tamron is good at 500mm then personally I don't see the benefit, unless perhaps the aperture at 500mm is still f6.3?

Anyway, the choice is obviously yours - would be interested to hear what you think if you do switch.

There's some hi res samples here http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3903795 vs the Sigma C. Although like most things it's probably best to wait for some real world experiences fromy aircraft photographers before making any purchasing decision

I have brought one of these, i got it last friday.

I took it out shooting some ducks over the weekend as i wasnt at duxford or southport, it performs really well i have used it with a tc 1.4x converter thats 700mm f8 and the quailty is amazing. I am hoping to get to old warden for the last show of the season and give it a good go and see how it performs for airshows.

like wise this is a crop with the Tamron 150-600 I would love to see the results up against these two lenses.

Just got my 200-500 - tried it out in the back garden on a BA A320 BPK departure, so at about 6,000 when going over me. Slight adjustment to exposure on import to Photoshop but here's an original image and a cropped image for comparison.

Exif: Nikon D7100, 1/1000, f5.6, exp +0.7, ISO 400

Can't wait for a show to really try it out...

Sorry to bump this thread but I'm seriously loving into upgrading my kit after receiving some money for christmas. I'm considering either the Nikon 200-500 or the Sigma 150-600 Sport, at the moment site and weight is not a consideration.

The important factors for me are sharpness and focus. How is those factors at 500mm for the Sigma vs Nikon? Is the Nikon sharper and faster? If that is the case I'm might skip the extra 100mm since I find sharpness to be way more important than an extra 100mm.

And as a side note for those who use the 150-600, how often are you shooting at 600mm? Since I'm using a 1.5x crop camera 500mm would be 750mm and I feel that most "professionals" using high-end gear tend to use the 500mm prime with a 1.4x converter which would leave them with 700mm and therefore 750mm should be more than enough, or am I wrong here?

Thanks in advance for any help :)
