New compact for under £200?

Post by CJS »

Evening all, anyone who has had the misfortune to see any of my meagre photo posts on here will be aware that I use a compact most of the time.

The one I've currently got - a Lumix DMC-TZ25 - is on its way out. The lens has worked loose and there's a delightful black ring round the left side of all the shots, whilst the right side is out of focus. I'm guessing it's suffered a knock at some point.

Just wondering if anyone has any recent experience of a decent compact for under £200? I know it's not the kind of kit normally discussed but I can't be the only one who uses one as their camera of choice...can I? :-P

I wouldn't have a Lumix again. Although it took good photos (for a compact) I've had to have it replaced once (under warranty) and cleaned twice due to so much muck getting inside.

Cheers for any tips :-)
Chris

If you add another £1,000, you could have a Sony RX10-III

If you don't mind something that's been superseded ( even though it's only been out just over a year ! ) , I'm a fan of the Canon SX710 HS ( http://www.canon.co.uk/for_home/product ... _sx710_hs/ )
Should be available for under £200 these days if you look around.

Dust in lens ? ...... just about every camera I've had suffered from that to varying degrees !
