Processing - Lightroom changes

Post by BDL »

I would assume that most have seen that Adobe have announced changes to Lightroom, releasing two versions - Lightroom Classic CC and Lightroom CC. It's all rather confusing, well to me! I think it means that there will be no standalone Lightroom versions and it's all going to be subscription based. I'm not sure I can justify carrying on spending over £100 a year.

Has anyone else been using On1 Photo Raw? I've been using it to re-process some of my older shots and I'm liking it a lot. So has anyone ditched Lightroom for ON1 or other products?

Thanks.

Not sure if it's available for Windows or Mac, but I've found DarkTable to be an excellent Lightroom replacement for Linux. Might be worth checking for a version for your operating system.

Trying to get my head around Capture one for Sony. It's free as Sony have paid for the licence.

I've been using CS2 on XP machines for years however, it doesn't run particularly welll on Windows 7, so suspect it will be no better on Windows 10 unless there's a workaround.

To answer your question
Lightroom CC was renamed Lightroom Classic
Lightroom CC is now a Cloud based version that runs on and is optimised for mobile devices.
Both are on a subscription basis at different prices.

I gather that there is no longer a stand-alone version, however Adobe Photoshop Camera RAW is still available and it has the same controls as Lightroom Classic, so that should continue to be available.
On One 2018 is the new kid on the block and is available in a Beta version right now, it is supposed to be faster and less resource hungry than LR and is available as a stand alone product. However it involves a different workflow, which may not suit everyone.

Despite saying they weren't going to update it any more, apparently Adobe are releasing one more update to the stand alone Lightroom 6.

An update to Lightroom 6 for perpetual licensed customers for new camera support will be available on December 19th.
