Printer recommendations

Post by frank »

Looks like my Canon Pixma iP5000 has developed an electrical problem ( see my previous post - printer will only prints black).
So I am looking for a new printer of similar or better print quality but as usual the choices are many.
Just wondered if anyone can recommend a wired printer.
I use a PC and would prefer no-Wifi printer.
Not looking for the cheapest or most expensive - just want good quality photographic prints and occasional printing for the usual stuff.
TIA

I'm using an Epson SureColor P600 which I've been very happy with. It does have Wi-Fi, but you can also use a wired connection, which I'm using. Rather annoyingly it does not come with a wire, but I'm using one that I had with my previous printer. Quite expensive I suppose, but 'you only get what you pay for' as people used to say!

You might also consider an A3 printer if you want to put some pictures on the wall as well. A friend of mine has a Canon pixma 8750, which is giving very impressive results. I'm considering buying one myself actually.

I can see that the 7250 has two front loading trays - one for A4 and one for "photo paper". The latter only takes smaller sizes of paper from the blurb I have read on line.
So two QQ please
1. Does the A4 paper tray take glossy photo paper
2. Being a front loader, does it smear the photos at all or limit the density of photo paper you can use. I only ask as someone in the past has said that printers that "turn" the paper can have these limitations.

Other than that I am very impressed on the 7250 with its print resolution of 9600 x 2400 dpi

I normally use A4 sized plain and different finish photo paper from the bottom tray with no problems, changing the stock when needed.

When using the duplex function to print doubles sided on letters to family etc with pictures in, we don't get any smudging.

All in all, its an excellent printer, I bought this one to replace an 8 colour Ip8500 that died, and the results are just as good, I did get a print example from Canon first before purchasing.

Many thanks for the reply. I think I will go with the 7250. Struggle to get in my head how they can make and sell any printer for £49.99. There doesn't seem to be any A4 printer that come close to the resolution of this one.

As an aside is printer resolution the most important criteria for quality prints. Not witstanding that I understand the more inks you have will also have a big impact on quality. Just wondering

That's the price I paid from Jessops, it came with 2 free 20 sheet packs of Canon A4 paper too.
