Is this dodgy???

Post by Glenn Beasley »

Just had an email from someone claiming to be from the Daily Mail through A.net, does it sound right do you think....?

"G-XLAK (cn 35092/2160) Departing 23L with the terminal behind hosting BA, BMI Baby, BMI and American.

A quick Google of the phone number reveals it is the Daily Mail. Found it here, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/article-264157/Answering-editorial-queries.html

Surprised they just said "we're using it"....no may we use it or would you be prepared to let us etc. etc.
Well done all the same.

My response would have been "no you arent", and then started bargaining.

Wait a day and let them use the image, then invoice them for a large sum - including a fee for copyright breach

Although their level of courtesy does leave a little to be desired, it is a cracking shot and well worthy of publication. Well done!

Well, It's officiallly not "dodgy" Glenn, for those who don't read the DM, here's page 53...

Sorry for the lack of quality, I know I'm useless!

It's exactly the way that the Sunday Times approached me when I got a shot published. I suppose I could have let them print first, then tried to bargain afterwards, but I was happy to have a shot printed and get paid for it. Also it was paid at the commercial rate, so I wasn't losing out.

One thing Glenn, I can't see a photo credit on Needham's scan. If they don't do it automatically then you probably could have asked them to include your name

Congratulations

Wow, was expecting a small b&w, can see Glenn at the local newsagaents buying up all the Mails this morning
Thats one to get framed. How much , if you don't mind me asking, does a tabloid pay for a photo like that?

Hi Steve, I've had a good look and there's no mention of Glenn anywhere on the article.

I'm assuming they have a standard fee, if not what's it worth do you think?

Glenn,

mine was less than a quarter the size of yours in print, and b+w:

I got £75 for it, I would assume that you would be up for more than that for a one off use
