Compressor advice?

Compressor advice?

Postby Craig on Sat 14 Jul 2012, 4:52 pm

Right guys, pay day next week, need a compressor, any ideas? Basic criteria are has to fit the Badger 200N (for obvious reasons), don't mind spending a fair price but don't want it getting silly (eg multiple hundreds-have no idea what actually this will cost) and I don't have an eBay or Paypal account, so a shop rather than the 'Bay preferred. Any suggestions what I should look for? Recommendations? Avoid?

Many thanks in advance folks!

Craig,
Myself and Scott (and i hope Scott doesnt mind me saying) on here use different versions of the same basic compressor. I have an AS-186 compressor with tank as i read on britmodeller that tankless ones suffered from pulsing. Scott without the tank(AS-18S??) doesnt suffer from pulsing but does spray at low pressure. Sure they are still available on Ebay for under £80. Might also need an adapter to fit your airbrush/airline, but this might come with the compressor.
Arabest,
Geoff.
I work with Tommy the pilot!

I have an Iwata sprint jet that gets really hot after about 20 minutes so mine has a fan running on it. Can't say pulsing is that much of a problem to me as it only takes a couple of seconds after a run to get back up to pressure, thats me spraying vallejo model air at between 1.5-2 bar with an Iwata Revolution CR. Little Cars used to sell an identical one called the Little Jet for about £120 - not sure if they still do?

Biggest bit of advice is get one with a water trap and also get a quiet one. This one isn't bad, it sits on the bench humming away and isn't too distracting. The old one had to sit outside with the hoses running through the window it was that noisy, then its no fun to work with.

I use an AS18 Compressor, found on http://www.everythingairbrush.com/acata ... eries.html, absolutely wonderful thing, and so far been very reliable to me. Does get a little hot after 20 mins though, but nothing too bad.

Hi
I followed the advice of Scott and JAmes on here when I bought one a couple of weeks ago and got an AS-18 from everything airbrush. As James says gets pretty hot but has never been a problem. It is fairly quiet too as I have had it on in the same and next door rooms to my wife and kids watching tv and not had too many complaints! Also if you are near or happen to be near Poole in Dorset you can go to the everything airbrush warehouse and try out lots of the stuff. I am not too far away and was there for work and they were really helpful as i was a complete newbie. (they might also give you a good deal!)

As Geoff says above I've been using the AS18 without air tank for 4 years now. Air pulsation won't be a problem as pulsation is caused by the amount of air it can move per minute in this case 20-23 ltrs per min, which even at 25psi is more than ample. It does get hot after a while, but I've used mine continuously for over an hour on several occasions without any problems. I also coupled it with the 200NH and it gives good overall results.

Also invest in a 1/8" to 1/8" rubber braided hose which won't require an adaptor at the compressor but you will require a m5 female x 1/8" male badger adaptor at the gun.

Thanks gents AS-18 it looks like it'll be

Scott do you know if everythingairbrush also do the hose/adapter? Be easier to just order as a batch if so! Good price and a "proper" shop not eBay so that ticks all the boxes for me!

Many thanks for your input gents much appreciated!

Right, kit ordered as above, and very surprised at postage costs! Under £7 for next day for that weight is excellent! Top stuff!
