This is my last Hurri of the year. And my last model completion of the year.
And this is the first of several 242 Sqdn themed builds. Why 242 Sqdn?
Well I'm an admirer of Douglas Bader.
And he led 242 Sqdn with distinction when they returned from France after being severely mauled.
He built them up again.
The first model is that of F/O William Lidstone "Willie" McKnight DFC and Bar, a Canadian from Edmonton Alberta, who grew up in Calgary, and who Bader looked on as a surrogate son, and was Bader's wingman.
Why McKnight well on January 12 it will be the anniversary of when he was lost at the age of 22.
His body was never found, but his name liveth for evermore on the Runnymede Memorial.
He was also the 5th highest scoring ace in the RAF. And 242's highest scoring airman.
When McKnight was killed Bader was so distraught and vowed revenge, but this was disallowed.
Calgary's McKnight Boulevard is named in his honor.
Willie was also at the time of his loss 242's leading ace with 17 kills to his credit.
And also being half Canadian I had to do his ride.

Interesting piece of history there... A pretty good build too! I would like to see what you could do with an airbrush one of these days. Don't take that as a insult.. It's just you do a fine job with a brush. Personally I think you could do an amazing job with an airbrush.
