Vintage Model Company - Spitfire

Post by Greydrake »

Hi all,

I used to make many a model when I was younger, and I haven't done it for a long time and then it was always Airfix, Revell, AMT.
I never branched out into the "Dark Arts" of wooden model making
So naturally for my 29th birthday my other half purchased me the Vintage Model Company Spitfire

for starters its a challenging sight with 3 sheets of balsa wood staring back at you rather than the moulded parts I was used to!

you build the model directly onto its 1:1 blueprints and you need a lot of pins and a lot of patience!

it took me several days to get started I was so worried about it all but once I did the wings and tail soon took shape!

I hope you like it, it was my first balsa model and first kit in a long while!

as you can see Danger Duck is tail heavy when it flies as I haven't balanced the nose, but its mainly a showpiece I am incredibly proud of it.
the way I had to build it similar to a real plane the time and effort of turning 3 sheets of balsa and some tissue paper into a plane!

I cant recommend them enough.
I was that proud of it I even mailed the company who featured me on their blog!

which was nice. They are a great company and I would really recommend giving one a go!

My next one is an old reissue of a sopwith camel, so far it is...tricky

Very nice, looks smooth and straight with a great finish.

I do a balsa and tissue every 5 years and vow never again. Just finished a Guillows ju87 which has diecut parts on the sheets so a lot less time with the scalpel required :-) !

Cheers

The Camel I'm doing at the moment is a reissue of a Veron Kit
its taking a while as its currently in the very scary bend the wire wrong and you've completely ruined it stage!

Ah would love to see it ill post up my camel soon so you can see the progress it's painfully slow at the moment but self inflicted!

Love that stuka will have to get my spit in the air again to intercept!
