Something different - soaring in Austria UPDATE

Post by p2philip »

Hi everyone,

Here are some shots of recent flights in the Alps of Tyrol using a LS1 glider. A compact camera was mounted
on the wing using duct tape and a interval function clicked the shutter every 5 seconds. The scenic pictures were made during
sunset flights using a SF-25 motor-glider. I hope you like them - it was fun producing the pics for sure!

Greetings,
Philip

Plus something very special: A Bonanza had to go down right after take-off due to an engine failure and successfully landed
on a dry river bed with hardly any damage to the aircraft. It was put back on the aerodrome using a helicopter.

Beautiful photos.
Thanks for posting the shot above the Zugspitz.
I worked for years in Garmisch Partenkirchen and always wondered what it looked like.
Where did you take off from?..
Thanks again for posting photos.

Superb set of photos. The Bonanza and pilot had a lucky escape too, there doesn't look like too many suitable places around there for a forced landing.

Gotta say those are fantastic. Such a creative viewpoint on the glider wing and an amazing story about the Bonanza.

Thanks for the kind words guys! Yes, I have some more but it is always from the same angle, have to mount the camera differently next time. I will post some more later!

I was taking-off and landing also (well, most of the time) from Reutte-Höfen LOIR, a little airfield in northern Tyrol.

Thanks again,
Philip

Thanks again folks, will post some more as soon as I have time. My first tries were with the GoPro but the photo quality of the camera did not match my expectations so I tried with a Ricoh Digital GR III compact camera mounted on the wing using a tripod quick release plate and duct tape. The other photos were made with a Canon 40D.

Hi guys,

As promised - better late than never - here are a few more pics, some of
them featuring a rather vintage but fun to fly Ka-6 glider.

For more scenic stuff and landscapes just go here:

Together with Ka-8 glider, not quite Red Arrows standard but this was closer than it seems!

Probably some of the best gliding shots on UKAR to date

Some great scenic shots there filling me with envy. Although my favorate is the one with the Ka8, although personally I hate the "K8", although I believe I in the minority on that one. Anyway great stuff.

Shame I could never fit in the K6
Cheers,

Chris

Fantastic shots!

I've just taken up gliding again (yesterday, in fact!) after three years - it's tremendously good fun

That last photo is superb, but all are great! Do you mind me asking for a photo, of your photo set up on the wing?
