Hampshire Trip 24/03/2015 GA + MIL

Post by PlymouthFlyer »

Hi folks,

This thread includes a bit of everything but wanted to include it in a single report so filed under GA.

Decided to get out and about these two weeks before starting a new job in April and what better opportunity than to see the US Carrier moored off Portsmouth.

I arrived yesterday morning (24th) and proceeded to Eastleigh Rail yard to see what shots could be had of the stored ex-Sultan Sea King's waiting disposal. Many fences in the way but managed to get these on MF.

I then spent several hours around Lee On Solent Airfield - I must add a thanks to anyone who assisted in helping me gain access to the airfield. It was much appreciated and you know who you are.

Brand new Islander yet to fly and destined for the Channel Islands Air Search after their aircraft crashed a year or so ago. In the back can be seen an Army Defender, believed to be ZG996.

Nipped past HMS Sultan to see what was photgraphable. The busy car park meant a clean shot was only possible after work hours so took this at sundown hence the poor resolution. 4 Wessex and 1 Sea King. Clearly used for battle damage training; XV724, XT484, XS514, XR518 & ZA170.

Then nipped down to the shoreline to see what Navy ships where about in the Dockyard.

And finally the piece de resistance!
