Dropped by Peterborough Connington and caught a few movements near the end of the day's activities.

Nice good to see an update - not as good as the B17s though...

Just missed them I'm afraid.

If you go to the big farm building at the motorway end of the airfield on the local road (just north of the entrance to the Conington village) and ask nicely they may show the board upstairs that have stuff written on it by USAF airmen, particularly when they were going back in 1945-6 - things like 'only five kites left on the airfield' now and other stuff which I have forgotten! (if it is still there of course it was 15 plus years ago I saw it). Oh and the house round the back of Conington Church where one of the memorials is - is where the CIA forerunner (OSS) began with a guy called William Colby who later became director of the CIA and met a suspicious death in a canoe accident. The owner of the house which was commandeered still refused (50 years later) to even acknowledge anything happened there during the war as he was bound to secrecy. A lot of the bigger houses around the area were also stuffed full of Polish Generals who had made it to Britain after the invasion of Poland. Quite a lot of history in a small farming village (actually it even goes back the Robert the Bruce but that's another story!)

A lot of history in the immediate area then.
